The Chicago Cubs sent right-handed reliever Michael Wuertz to Triple-A Iowa on Saturday following a bad outing in Pittsburgh.
Right-hander Roberto Novoa was recalled to replace him.
Novoa held opposing Pacific Coast League batters to a .136 average and was 1-0 with a 2.70 ERA and one save at Iowa. He was 4-5 with a 4.43 ERA in 49 appearances for the Cubs last season.
Wuertz didn't retire any of the three batters he faced in the sixth inning of the Cubs' 11-6 victory Friday, giving up successive homers to Craig Wilson and Jason Bay and Joe Randa's single. He had a 6.75 ERA in three appearances.
