Ken Griffey Jr. has just been put on the 15-day DL with strained tendon behind the knee. I fear more and more he's an injury away from retiring. Source is from: http://www.channelcincinnati.com/sports/8783547/detail.html

Griffey needs to swallow his pride and move to 1B or to the AL where he can DH. Even then he is an extremely high injury risk.

I concur....he ain't cutting it anymore..the reds fans must be at the
end of their patience....before he had all of these injuries, since coming
to Cincy, had true hall-of-fame-numbers..and more..
i suspect he'll retire soon...maybe not...

Right now, people are wondering why it took so long to have Griffey visit the team trainer. The fingers aren't pointing to him, yet.
He's producing when healthy, so it's more of a little frustration than a loss of patience. I've yet to hear anyone calling for him to get out of here. They're still complaining about pitching to Pujols in the 9th . . .

the claim from all the medical people is that first base would actually be harder on Griffey's legs due to the stretching. he really needs to get traded to an AL contender where he can DH, and get the World Series ring that he so deserves.

I agree, it's time to shop him around and see if the Reds can pick up a solid pitcher.

except he's a 10/5 player. he has the final say on where he goes.

i think the best bet is to move him to first. he faces less strain during his defense, and is less likely to injyr himself. ryan freel gets the starting spot that he rightly deserves, and in general the reds produce MORE runs. it would just piss off rich aurilla cuz his starts would be reduced, because first base is the only place he'll start any more. for some odd reason the reds are fixed on encarnacion at third, and brandon phillips won't let go of second base, and if griffey were to move to first, aurilla is scrwed.
sorry, i had a few tangents on that rant...

You're correct on this, Ravenlord. His hamstring won't take the stretching. I played mostly catcher in high school, but did play a few games at first. Truthfully, I'd much rather play the outfield than first. Being 5'-8" made me have to stretch further than most guys. I didn't like playing first one bit.
Is there a team willing to take on Junior's salary and the injury risk?
The Reds are much better off platooning Hatteberg and Aurilia at first and playing Ryan "Dangerman" Freel in center.

I heard from the Big One this weekend Griffey's knee is feeling better, so this could only be a short-term thing.
So should they drop Griffey altogether? The guy still can swing a nice bat.

if i can find a taker that Griffey's willing to go to, i'd deal him just for contract relief.

It seems to me that Griffey's just a figure-head now. Someone to let the fans worshop and bring in crowds. He's a good player, but mostly just a legacy now.

unfortunately true. can still hit a ton. still gets a great break on the ball in the field...but he's too slow to get to much. heck, in EZ Ramirez' last start, all i could think while watching the game was that if Griffey was in center EZ allows at least 5 runs that game.

This guy still has it and I'm tired of everyone calling for him to get out of Cincy. He was producing runs in the first nine games that they played (7 RBI in 9 games). With the one and two holes setting themselves up and stealing bases, once Griffey is back all he will do is drive them in from either the 3 or 4 hole. He is a large key to this offense. Especially with Freel struggling as of late. So to all of you nay sayers, I refuse to believe we have to trade Griffey for pitching. Get rid of LaRue and Wilson and Milton before Griffey.

and then we get to watch balls drop in the gaps that even Jason LaRue could get to.
