Dave Dombrowski announced today that to make room for Dimitri in the up comming Twins series, the Tigers are waiving Alexis Gomez. Dombrowski added that he does not expect Gomez to clear waivers.

Now, I know we've had very little to look at regarding Gomez. However, if you take the last couple games into account, I think this might be a mistake. He's a leftie (one of the holes the lineup has that we all agree on), and if the last few days are indication he preforms well in the clutch.

He also was the fellow that started the scoring in the 9th inning comeback against the A's a few weeks ago. Yesterday even in the outs he made the pitcher had to throw at least 5 pitches. I am no sabremetrics guy (heck, Vlad went 4 for 5 today on 7 pitches) but still I think the Tigers need a few work the pitcher guys. Maybe waiving would have been inevitable, but now? He is coming off a good series RBI, R, 3B, 2B <shrugs>, in Dave we trust?

I would rather have seen one of the relief pitchers sent down. Among Grilli, Seay, or Tata, is there enough work to keep them all occupied? If Jason Grilli's job is to come in once a week and pitch an inning in a blowout, can't that work be covered by Tata or Seay?

I agree, but I also read a quote from Leyland regarding this exact thing. He said, "I would rather have 13 pitchers then 11". <shrugs> he's been doing this longer then me :D

Hopefully Dmitri can put together a good, healthy season the rest of the way for us, otherwise I don't see this being a good move either. I agree that if anyone should get moved, it should be Tata. He's very young, and needs more work than what he's been getting. Put him on Toledo's roster until one of our starters gets hurt or stumbles. Gomez is good enough to not just throw away.

In Dave we trust? I guess that by how good the team has come around the past few years, yeah, we have to trust in DD. I'm sure this move is causing him far more headaches than it is us, but he must feel it is best for the team at the moment. If Dmitri can play, then it works out fine. If he is around for a week or so before he re-injures his quad, than no, it's not a good move. One of those hindsight things, we'll have to wait and see. At least we're talking about our bench players, and not trying to figure out who we're going to start at SS or in RF.
