Since joining baseball-fever a few months ago, I have
found this forum to be the best by far. It has sparked
an interest for me not only for the Brooklyn Dodgers,
but for the rich history of Brooklyn itself.

One question, I recenly re-read Leo Durocher's 1948
book "The Dodgers And Me". It has a number of
pictures of the Brooklyn fans in it.

There is, of course, a picture of the Dodgers Sym-Phony,
but there is also a photo of a group of fans with musical
instruments and a sign reading "Brooklyn Dodgers Band"
with a subtitle "Greenpoint Royal Rooters".

Can someone give me the backgound on this group?
Thanks very much!

Here is Shorty Laurice with the Brooklyn Dodgers Band which is what it was called in the late 1930's early 1940's before they became the Dodgers Sym-Phony. Shorty Laurice died in 1948 and his brother took over for him in the Dodgers Sym-Phony. This photo is from my collection.

Interesting that you should bring that "Greenpoint" name up, Brownie.

The name "Greenpoint Royal Boosters" comes from the area of BROOKLYN (Greenpoint/Williamsburg border) where the members of OUR DODGERS Sym-phony were born and lived. While I do not know this for sure, it is possible that they were known as the "Greenpoint Royal Rooters" before they decided on "The BROOKLYN DODGERS BAND", which in turn, as WE all know, eventually turned into "THE DODGERS SYM-PHONY BAND".

BTW, Brownie, thanks for the kind words about OUR Forum.......I think so, too! :clapping

I remember that they all came from that part of Brooklyn. I've heard that from several sources.

Thanks to one and all for helping me with this.
Just another reason why this is the best forum
by far in baseball-fever!
