No. That would be Robby Hammock of the D'Backs.

Not sure what it was but if it happened "one night" it must be Sept. 28, 1975 as that was the only day they ever played on the same date. They played in different games but I don't see any common thread. The game Allieta played in was the Oakland A's combined no-hitter. This was the last day of the season so maybe that has something to do with it? This was the last day of their respective careers as well.

No. That is not it. Remember the question is the "last two catchers ....". While what they did was in the same season it was not against each other. I might add this is extremely subtle. Oh, and the title doesn't really have a lot to do with the answer.

ok, by the title I figured it had to be soemthing they did the same day.

No, but it is a single game event for each of these catchers. In Dietz's case the pitcher was Don Sutton and in Allieta's case the pitcher was Nolan Ryan.

In the first post you say Jim Hutto and in this last one you mentioned a guy named Dietz?

Well, I messed up that clue. It is Hutto and Jim Palmer. The Dietz - Sutton reference is the third most recent case of what I am looking for.

Catch shutouts by Hall of Famers in their (the cathers) last game?

that may be it. It definitely was not the pitcher's last game though.

Not quite, but very very good! They caught complete game shutouts from a HoF pitcher in the only game he would catch that pitcher.

Wow, good one.....I kept looking at their game logs but just didn't see the ONLY game angle. I did see that they both caught shutouts from HOF pitchers near the end of their careers though.
I remember having a Bob Allietta baseball card as a kid, and he only played one season! Weird huh!

This has happened four other times in MLB history. The others are Ken Silvestri - Red Ruffing, Pinky Hargrave - Waite Hoyt, Bill Heath - Fergie Jenkins, and Randy Hundley - Juan Marichal.
