was amazed how the Tigers have pretty much handled the Twins,
and thought the Twins would have played better, and won a few
more games from the Tigers...but Leyland has lit a fire under them..
and the twins..hopefully, will get untracked..and make it an interesting
race with the bengals and chisox....don't forget the tribe as well
as for KC...well..it'll be around 2100 a.d.

I think the Tigers are going to be a playoff team one way or another. They got talent and it showed the last two years. It's a matter of learning how to win and obviously, the Tigers know how to win now. It was evident Wednesday night when the Tigers somehow found a way to beat Johan. Great teams find a way to get it done. Tigers will win the AL Central IMO.
I am not sure how you are amazed at how Detroit beat the Twins. Twins are not a good baseball team. In fact, they are the second worst team in baseball IMO. I did not think they would do well this off-season. I expected a losing record this year and I expect this team to be a last-place team this year with this team rebuilding. I know there were two gentlemen that I knew from another board who laughed at me and who criticized me for being too negative on the Twins. I wonder if those two gentlemen finish drinking Twins Kool-Aid. Twins offense still stink and their starting pitching is horrible. I guess you can be amazed how bad our starting rotation is. I did not think Radke would be washed up or Silva would be this bad. Kyle Lohse has stunk since 2001 and thankfully, he is gone for good. I think our starting rotation has been the reason why this team has bad. Our offense is okay. It's not as worst as last year, but it's still not good enough. I think Mauer and Morneau have been a bust so far and White and Batista have not panned out as free agents. Add them up and you got a horrible ballclub. This team will lose 111 games this season.
Twins are not even going to be in the race. In fact, I would bet you to a dinner at a steakhouse and say that the Twins would be in last place. If you disagree, I would take you out to a steakhouse. This team is horrible and now this team is rebuilding and they should as they get ready for a new stadium in 2010. I think it will be Detroit, the World Champs, and the Indians. I think Detroit will finish ahead of Cleveland mainly because Indians bullpen is horrible. Their starting rotation is okay. I think the next time, the Twins contend for a division is 2009 at best.
I gotta say that I hated the firing of Alan Trammell. I am not being scarcastic either. I thought he did a good job in his time there. I understand why Dombrowski had to fire him since guys like I-Rod, Dimitri Young (his Tigers playing days is probably over after he beat his ex), and several other vets stopped playing for Trammell which is unfortunate and not good on their parts. I thought this team could be a playoff team with Trammell this year. Remember these starters were starting to evolve and they were in the hunt for the wild-card last year till injuries hurted the Tigers. If Maggs and Guillen can be healthy, Tigers should be in good shape. You can't argue with the results. Still, it stinks that Tram is not the manager when the team is doing well. The guy did played a role in cultivating his young players into success which is why I am interested in him managing the Twins.
I am hoping Trammell gets another shot at managing and I hope it's in Minnesota. I want Trammell managing the Twins. I think a guy like him could be a good fit to help guys like Mauer, Morneau, Span, Matt Mosses and such. Twins are rebuilding and I think a guy like Trammell would be a good fit. My preference is Terry Bevington, the former White Sox manager, but I could live with either Alan Trammel or A's third base coach Ron Washington.
Good luck to the Tigers. I am rooting for them to go all the way. I have a lot of respect for the diehard Tigers fans and the players.

some very good points, and I must agree with them..I thought the Twins
were a lot better than people gave them credit for..I sorta still do, as they
have some bad luck..I thought they were in an minor rebuilding mode..but
it looks like I was wrong on this..perhaps they do need to be over hauled
so they can make a speedy return to the top of the central...as they were
the class of the central for many seasons...I'm still thinking they are only a player or two away..as clubs sometimes get in an rut, or have some bad
luck..but then again, clubs run in cycles...so perhaps, this is simply a good
time to be reboot the club..and fill those glaring needs....
I think the current mgr, probably needs to hit the door..and having TRAM
as skipper, is a wonderful idea...as he took a lot of grief, and had to sit
thru a horrible 2003 season, as the club was at ground zero, and was at
best, a average AAA club, in the central..but those players that stuck
around, and those who were brought in thru the draft, some trades, and FA's,
made the next season in 04, full of potential..true, Tram wasn't a pure baseball brain, like mauch, or anderson, but given time, and some decent
players with potential, etc..he would have become a better mgr, than a lot
of fans gave him credit for..in 03, fans and media, cut him some slack, as
the club hit bottom..and he couldn't make a lot of moves..but he was a
decent teacher..who stress a lot of positive habits..and in 04, he won
close to ,maybe 30 plus games more...and was hailed as a 'genius'..and
the hope of the club..expectations were high for 05, but lots of injuries,
and some sub par years, really hurt the club..and when several vets like
PUDGE literally 'quit' on him..the younger players in my opinion, followed
suit..and gave Tram and his staff, led by bruce fields and Kirk gibson,
a raw deal..finally something had to give..and after a terrible september
when the club rolled over and played dead...Tram was given his walking
papers..and his entire staff was not retain...but keep in mind, the basic
ground work and more that Leyland is enjoying, with this club, with perhaps
some additions like Rogers and Jones, was layed by TRAMMEL...A lot of
people felt TRAM was too nice of a guy to crack the whip..and the vets
did not listen or respect him..while Leyland is a good skipper, he also
won't take any crap from players like Pudge..as will bench anyone who
doesn't come to the park with a 110 % attitude or more...If anything,
Tram helped the tigers weather that horrible 119 loss season, and put
in motion, their eventual re birth...which leyland is now enjoying..
I concur that TRAM would be a good choice to skipper the twins, for the
next several seasons..and if given time and players, he would reap the
benefits, and his rep of being a lousy mgr, would fall by the wayside..
eventually, he will get another gig..as if he was such a poor skipper, then
why did both L.A. and the devil rays, even bother to interview him ? last
season...
anyhow, enjoyed your post...great points...

Not much has change, since I originally posted this thread back in
May..After a few months of nip and tuck with the ChiSox, the Tigers
has pulled away from the fading White Sox...which puzzles me...I
felt the Tigers were good..to keep on going..but seeing the White SOX
FADE out..has surprised me..I think they are better than that..but
probably picked a bad time to go on a extended slump...
The biggest treat, has been the re grouping of the Twins..one of the
hottest clubs, in the past six weeks...Back in May, when a lot of
fans were writing this season off..and hoping for the club to re group
for 2007 season..I felt that the Twins, were a lot better than their
early record suggested..and they are..they are only a couple of games
behind the ChiSox..and can pick up some additional ground..not only
with the rest of the Chicago series, but the upcoming one with the
Tigers..it won't be a dull moment, in the AL central...for the time
being...Good luck to the Twins !

I'm looking forward to our upcoming series with the Tigers, mainly because we have Liriano-Radke-Santana as our projected starters for the three games.

Make no mistake. Twins got lot to prove this week. I am curious to see how they do against the two best teams in baseball.
White Sox are a darn good team and the Tigers just find a way to get it done under Leyland. It will be interesting how the Twins fare against the best.

This will have the feel of playoff baseball.
It should be a good test for both teams.

I wouldn't say a sweep is in the cards...if anything, it's the TWINS that
will have to prove they can do it to Leyland's Tigers...if so, then a tip
of me tiger hat to your team...One thing's for certain, no matter who
you are..Chicago, Detroit, or Twins..when you're on fire..look out !!
should be a good series...and can make or break the Twins...remember,
there's the WC....hopefully, it'll come outta the central....and keep in
mind, CHICAGO is not finished..
