Flushing, NY (Sports Network) - The New York Mets acquired pitcher Dave Williams and an undisclosed amount of cash from the Cincinnati Reds on Thursday in exchange for minor league pitcher Robert Manuel.
The left-handed Williams was 2-3 with a 7.20 earned run average in eight starts for the Reds this season. On May 20th, Cincinnati designated the ineffective Williams for assignment.
The 22-year-old Manuel will report to Single-A Dayton for the Reds.
This trade for New York comes a day after the Mets bolstered their rotation by acquiring starting pitcher Orlando "El Duque" Hernandez from the Arizona Diamondbacks in exchange for reliever Jorge Julio.
