Just throwing this question out there. As a veteran myself Memorial day brings back many memories. I served in this modern war against terror, unlike many members who may have served in wars like Vietnam, Korea, and WWII. This question deals with you Vets, or family of Vets in WWII. What was it like to hear news of the Dodgers while at war? Was news given often either over military channels, or through friends and family via mail. Were the Dodgers talked about and what was life like as far as following the Dodgers during war time. Speaking from my own experience I loved hearing about the Mets while away from home. Yes more important, and life threatening events surrounded us, but it was always good to hear of events at home, and of course baseball.

I was in for 4 years during Viet Nam so the Dodgers were gone by then but I did get info from my grandfather, Armed forces radio, and the Stars and Stripes newspaper. The radio of course was the fastest, letters from home and the Stars and Stripes were at least a week behind. On this Memorial Day I give thanks to the men and women serving today, all the veterans that served and those that gave the ultimate sacrifice for our great country in all our wars, God bless them all.

When I was in the military in the 80s, I found the best source of baseball news was the Sporting News. It was especially good at keeping me updated on what was happening with the Indians. This period was when the Sporting News was at about the end of its time as a great publication. I think it was still publishing all the box scores at that time.
Please remember those who gave the ultimate sacrifice. They ae the real heroes, I think.
