Got to take my son to his first Major League ball game this weekend. Reds v Indians. Final score was 6-3 (6 of those runs on Home Runs).

The park itself was beautiful. I had never been and was very impressed. With my other MLB stadium experiences being Cleveland Municiple Statium, Edision Field, Shea Stadium and several years at Yankee Staduim I have not been to one of these new facilities. The views were excellent, the tickets resonable (Row HH right behind the Reds Dugout) and the play great. Food was good, restrooms clean and acessable. there was a nice breeze the whole game and the sound system was nice a clear. I loved the big screen, lots of good info (especially since we scored the entire game).

Not alot of 'extras' at the park. One radar station to guess you pitch speed. We walked around to scout out other views for our next game. Hit the over priced Team Shop and took some picks. Overall a great experience, although I was little surprised at the 'quietness' of the crowd, when your team is tied for 1st with the Cardinals.....that was a little weird. :clapping

The park is normally pretty quiet. Cincinnati has intelligent fans but not rowdy ones. Most of the season ticket holders would rather have a discussion of the value of clutch hitting than get excited over a 44-40 team. They've seen this exact pattern in 2002 and 2004 - and I mean exact. Both those teams got to 44-37 before dropping to 2 or 3 over .500 a week later.

GABP is a nice enough park. I don't like the huge lower deck and it doesn't really flow that well architecturally, but I guess that was the intention. From your seats you had a good view of the scoreboard - the best in baseball. You must have been fairly close to the Big Red Sofa.

I'm not sure exactly where you were sitting but your comment about the sound being good was surprising. The Reds have gotten a tremendous number of complaints about the overly loud sound system - I worked in the Reds' front office so I got to go through a lot of the season ticket holder surveys.

Behind the first base area there should be about 5 or 6 games like speed pitch, including clocking your time to run 90 feet in a race style and cornhole. I don't know if you checked out right field but that's a pretty cool area, especially in the mist under the smokestacks.

I agree...the team shop is rediculous, although the connected hall of fame is really nice, although it puts way too much emphasis on 4,192, a pretty meaningless number compared to the 4,190 that actually set the record and Rose's final count of 4256.
