Edit: Can't be right - Williams didn't lead the league in homers in 1960.

Odwall:
-led league in 1905
-0 HR in 1906
Brain:
-led league in 1907
-0 HR in 1908
Williams:
-led league in 1942
-went to war and didn't play the next year

You are getting closer, but other players (e.g. Frank Baker - 1914) have led the league in HR's and then hit none the following year.

No, that can't be it because Brain only played 1 year after leading the league in HR, and Odwell only played 2 years after his league leading total.

That is technically correct, but what I am shooting for here doesn't involve the number of years without a HR. One is enough.
