What does everyone think of the latest trades?

My opinion:

I think if Lohse can be like he was a couple years back in Minnesota, that's a decent trade but not a great one. Ward was undefeated (7-0) at Dayton and could have maybe brought more than Lohse.

I think Germano deserved one more start; but if Cormier can be as good as he was in Philly, it's not a terrible trade. He didn't start off well last night; but at least they only scored once while he was in there and it wasn't charged to him so it doesn't affect his ERA.

Anyone else?

Cincinatti has really improved their now championship worthy bullpen over the last month acquiring key pieces to fill out the blanks . They began acquiring CL Eddie Guardado from the Seattle Mariners to be the full time closer and end the David Weathers/CL sweepstakes , they then dealt All-Star SS Felipe Lopez and promising OF Austin Kearns to the Washington Nationals for P's Bill Bray and Gary Majewski and Gold Glove Capable SS Royce Clayton ( I just named the 3 out of 5 players acquired by the Reds because these ones will help them right now not like Harris and Daryl Thompson who will emerge in the future). After this trade , you must of thought that the Reds were crazy to do such a move but by doing this deal , the Reds got Bullpen Help for now and the future and made space for UTIL Man Ryan Freel who deserved a starting job in the organisation but could not get one due to the emergence of 2B Brandon Phillips , 3B Edwin Encarnacion and RF Austin Kearns , the Reds then decided to part with one of those young phenoms which was RF Austin Kearns wich gave Ryan Freel the starting job in RF .
Two weeks later , July 31st , the Reds decided to add even more talent to their Pitching Staff by acquiring P's Kyle Lohse and Rheal Cormier from Minnesotta and Philadelphia . Acquiring SP Kyle Lohse was a good move by the Reds to fill out a late rotation spot who was empty due to the absence of SP Paul Wilson who is currently on the 60-day DL , when Wilson comes back , Lohse will probably be demoted to the bullpen as a Long Reliever . Adding Cormier to the squad is a great move to add experience to the bullpen to guide young Pitchers like Bill Bray , Gary Majewski and Jason Stanbridge and also to add a reliable Setup Man to the Team .

King, please tell me you are being sarcastic...

Krivisky is funny. Thank god I am not a Reds fan. I still haven't recovered from the Kazmir for V Zam disaster that the Mets did two yrs ago.

Any chance Kriv will trade Dunn for Bradford and Heath Bell? Normally I wouldn't even bother asking, but since Kriv loves dime a dozen relievers so much, maybe there's a shot. LOL

I really don't think people understand this trade. The Reds had a strong offense but a weak bullpen, they traded offense to strengthen the bullpen. Usually teams trade what they have the most of for something they have the least of.

Well, if the idea is to weaken the offense, mission accomplished. Before the trade, CIN ranked 3rd in the NL in runs scored. Since the trade, 12th out of 16.

The problem that most people have with the Kearns trade is not that he traded offense for relief pitching, but that he didn't get nearly enough in return. I don't think either Lopez or Kearns are great players, but both are better as position players than either Bray and Maj are as pitchers.

Bray has a low ERA since the trade, but his WHIP is 1.55, which is more indicative of how well he's actually pitching. Majewski's Reds ERA is a funny 12.57 and a WHIP of 2.57.

Good job Wayne.

I guess you gotta admire the GM, pulling the trigger, and rolling the dice
in order to try and improve, fix short comings, etc...They could have done
nothing, stood pat...I do think they should have gotten more for Kearns,
and was the Nationals offer, the BEST ?

No guts no glory....anyhow, good luck to the REDS..I would like to see them
back in the playoffs...and go from there...

We miss the offense of Kearns and Lopez big time. With Majewski possibly being "damaged goods" we really got ripped off I think. As can be seen on this board I was never satisfied with the Nationals trade and think Jim Bowden is a such a damn crook the undertaker will have to screw him into the ground when his time comes.

Royce Claton just has no offense at all and hasn't really impressed me as a SS. I realise Lopez wasn't the best SS we had but I would rather have him than Clayton. I think Aurilla needs to be at SS. We just got burned by Washington, period.
