Anyone knows were I can get an 1899, Cleveland Spiders jersey? I think it would be so cool to wear one.
Thanks

Hehehe that would be pretty cool.

Is a 1899 edition of it any different from the other years? If so, I'm sure they burned them all...:D

If the Hall of Fame website's Dressed to the Nines would just go back another year or two, you could make your own

I just checked out that hall of fame dressed to the nines site. Good stuff. Check out the 1915 Buffalo Federal League Road Uniforms. I want one of those!

1908 Bosox or 1911 Reds. Of course there's nothing like good ol' '75 Astros. No wonder the 1901 Orioles (road unis) eventually moved. Gag me with the '16 Giants

I grew up in Houston and in the early and mid 70s I was an "Astro Buddy" along with my two older sisters. That meant we got to go to seven or eight games for free, and got kids t-shirt versions of the players' uniforms. Do you have any idea how bad I wish I still had those things?

Not an original, but a replica, and 1899 edition is probably no different from the previous years..... 20 wins baby!:gt

Also one really cool story is on the last day of the season when they got some guy working at a cigar stand to pitch, Eddie Kolb, it seems like a dream come true, untill he gave up 19 runs in his only baseball game ever.:lookitup
Poor guy had to pitch a complete game:(
He did go 1-4 with a run scored
So if I find that Spiders replica jersey, I'll consider "Kolb" on the back of it. lol

By the Way! only 9 of those 19 runs were Earned

I'm pretty sure it would just be an all gray wool jersey. The teams were differentiated back in the day by their socks, the jerseys all looked the same until the Yankees put pinstripes on theirs.

Still, it would be awesome.

From a Lou Criger fansite (http://www.loucriger.org/) (who knew!), this is a picture of the 1898 edition:

I don't imagine 1899 was much different.

Whatever you think of the aesthetics of it, it is weird that their road uniform was so much more ornate than their home.* Wouldnt they want to show off more for the home folks? I thought the idea was to have "road grays" since the washing machine situation on the road was always dodgy? Or is the idea to intimidate the opposing team and their fans on the road? Are their other examples in history where the road uniform was more impressive?
