I don't see Philly losing and frankly I hope they don't. If we can't catch the Pods then we don't deserve to be in.
But I think this season is a huge success. I never would have expected them to still be in it the last week of the season. These meaningful games down the stretch will benefit the young guys in the future.

I agree, I don't want to win the Wild Card. For me, it's division or nothing. No crap playoff spots for the Dodgers.

I understand your frustration, and I've purposefully avoided joining the 'we're #1' bandwagon, even after the great 'come-from-well-behind-twice' win they pulled off last Monday because of this very moment in time. Rooting for the Dodgers is always an up and down proposition, and in the end it usually leads to heartbreak, so although I've been a loyal fan, I've also been quite reserved.
I don't think it's time to throw in the towel yet, though. I'd prefer not to have to back in via the wild card, but it's better than no playoffs at all. On paper, they don't stack up very well against the best teams of the other divisions, but they didn't in 1988 either, and look what happened. There's still time to catch SD, but their fate may not be in their own hands anymore. In baseball, anything can happen.
Ugh... thank you, Mr. Cliche.... :ughh

Captsapp, again, I understand why you say this, however should the Dodgers make the playoff as a wild card team and actually manage to win a few games and advance, I'll bet you, as a loyal fan, would be very pleased - wild card or not.
Then again, I don't know you, so I could be wrong, but if you are indeed a loyal fan, I don't see how I could be....

You're right, I'd love to see them go on a winning streak in the playoffs. I'd just hate to see that Wild Card flag flying at the Stadium. And if we went as the Wild Card and got swept - I'd just rather see someone else go, then.

 What the hell??? Look at all the recent wild cards that have won the World Series. I don't think the Dodgers would be one of them, but only 8 out of 30 teams get to make the playoffs, so it's a nice accomplishment. And it's not like we're the Yankees with a $200 million+ payroll and are guaranteed to make the playoffs every season. I'd rather make it as a wild card and lose in the 1st round than not make it at all.

I do agree that we're done, at least as far as the division. The Padres never lose, and we have to end in San Francisco where the Giants can't wait to spoil us.
Our best chance is the Wild Card. And although we're only a ½ game back, the Phillies never seem to lose, and we have to deal with the Giants on the road to end the season.

Done as far as the division??? LA is 1 1/2 games back!! Cmon guys, dont give up on your team yet!! I have a rooting interest this year, and he just hit you a walk-off slam. There is no way the dodgers are done in the West.

We've been a hot and cold team all season. Let's hope we're ready to hit a hot streak. The Pods and Phillies are both playing teams that still have something to play for. Let's hope we can make our move this week against the Rockies and Barroids and the stinken Giants.
If we fail to make the playoffs, there's no way I can count this season a success. While some of the younger players many have gained some experience, there's only one word to describe what a veteran laden team like the Dodgers did.

2 games back in the division, and going on the road including SF. Padres just don't lose at all anymore, so forget the division.

Could happen tonight, they're facing Carpenter. Let's hope the Phillies pull a 1964. Right now, I'll take the wild card and be very happy.

This thread was ridiculous when it was started, 1 1/2 back in the division, and tied in the wild card. But i'm glad they will play in October, good luck Dodgers!

This is just dumb. Anyone would have though you were a Yankee fan. Look at what you typed, just ask others here. I'm actually glad you are a Dodgers fan, is that Labine or Erskine or who?
p.s. its like me saying, hey guys see you at minute maid in the world series!.. and expecting for people to NOT think im a stros fan.

I thought it was amusing, and yes I guess I was misleading by saying WE. I guess I should have said "I will see you" not "We" or something...
that is indeed Oisk to my right

When I was six, my Mom and dad took me to camera day at Ebbets Field. My Dad got a picture of me with Jackie Robinson. It hangs on the wall of my office to this day. A cherished memory.

Congrats to you too. As for the butt kicking- the last time I heard that was from a Met fan friend of mine back in 1988 on the eve of the NLCS. :D
How sweet would an all SoCal NLCS? Especially considering how ESPN has been saying how sh*** the NL west is for the last 3 months.

Only slightly off-topic, I got into a little verbal sparring match with a Yankees fan at the Braves-Astros game friday night. He tried to get my son to say "Go Yankees" and I told him that my son would never say that, I'm a Dodgers fan! Then he said, "Well, who's gonna win the World Series?" I said the Dodgers - gotta represent, right? So he's like, "The Dodgers don't have a chance" - all I said was we didn't have a chance in '81 or '88, did we?
A lot of fun - my first real argument with a fan at a ballgame. Even my wife was trying to get into it! And, no, it wasn't mean-hearted or anything. We were all kindly putting down each other's team.
GO DODGERS!

See how my post fired up the Dodgers! :D
I did a post in another thread a while back, saying something to the effect of "the Dodgers are done, they'd have to win 8 - 10 straight to get back into it, and we all know that's not gonna happen."
Then they went on that awesome 17-1 run.
Now this!! I gotta keep it up! Look for my "we have no chance against the Mets" thread coming soon! ;)

This is precisely what I didn't want. I can't stand it that the Dodgers were the wild card team and then swept out of the playoffs. I would have rather seen them not go.
