Thoughts?
I personally am disappointed. The ads behind home plate were bad enough.

Its common place in sports now days, so its no biggie to me. How else are they gonna get some of that 300 million spent back? :p

Right. I would have problem if Wrigley started to look like a minor league field with all those ads.

The Cubs should just build a new ballpark. I know thats going to make a lot of you angry but Ive been going to Wrigley longer then most of you. Yes, its historic but this isnt Saint Peter's Bascilica were talking about here its a ballpark. The Cubs are one of the biggest market teams in baseball and they deserve a modern ball park, as do the fans.
I went back to Wrigley last year, and yes many memories came back, but lets face it. The place is a dump! And all these day games aren't helping the team any either. Besides every year is going to see more signs and crap hanging up just cause they are a big market team paying big salaries.
If we could say goodby to Comiskey then the Cub fans can say goodby to Wrigley.

The Cubs should just build a new ballpark. I agree 100% especially if they are going to start whoring Wrigley out more and more. Difference between Comiskey in Wrigley is that Wrigley is now a historic landmark, so it can't/won't be tore down. The Cubs would have to move.

It's the same as with every ball park, ads everywhere, it's not a big deal, it's a business....and sponsors help out a lot. Plus ads, like the ones at fenway, add an "old time" feel to the park IMO.

Looks like it's just me I guess.
There's just something about the idea that there will be ads intermingling with the ivy that makes me a little... I don't even know what word to use, but I'd prefer it if they didn't put ads out there. Not much I can do though.

You know Bob, I've watched many Red Sox games on tv, but never realized there were that many ads there, wow. To me, that's too much. Didn't MLB want to put Spiderman ads on the bases at one point when the first Spiderman movie came out?

I haven't watched a Red Sox game in ages, so like you, I had no idea that Fenway was a pseudo minor league park with CVS, MW. Mason, SportsAuthority, Coca Coca, Citgo, etc ads in strategicaly placed spots. I will give credit to the tv crews for doing a good job of not concentrating on the ads, whether it's to keep the viewer on baseball or maybe purposeful cutting of ads before their not the TV sponsor. Plus as a TV viewer more than 75% of the game is a camera angle from CF that gives you the view of the pitcher's ass. That's why the rotating signs behind homeplate rake in more money. It's the fan at the ballpark that has to deal with the eyesores and even though I live 2500 miles away now, it still bothers me severely to see what Wrigley has become. I swear to Elohim the first time I see WGN say "We'll pause for station identification" and instead of giving me a camera view of a young hot chick (or two) they give me a picture of that damn Under Armour instead, the TV will be off and the radio will be on.
Good point on the Spiderman base advertisements, everybody was up and arms over it. "That's wrong, that takes away from the game, and uglys it up." So where are those same people now?

Wrigley had billboards in the outfield from 1918-1920.

I agree. I kinda enjoy seeing the nice chicks sitting in the stands during those breaks...lol.

The next step will be advertising on jerseys.
Be honest guys. Those adds in MLB stadiums aren't as bad as some outfield walls of MiLB stadiums.

This is an affront to everything that Wrigley Field stands for. I am not against advertising, per se. But the founders of this sacred place Weeghman, Veeck, Wrigley, etc. went to great lengths keep this place an “edifice of beauty.”
What’s next? A Nike swoop clipped into the ivy? This is wrong.

No the MLB parks aren't as bad as the MiLB ones are but that's the slope of where MLB stadiums are headed. Hell look at Fenway, it's getting closer and closer every year.

While I am 100% against the whole thought of placing an ad in the outfield, even if its just on the door, it could be a lot uglier of an add. Think about it, its just 3 or 4 white lines strategically placed to create the letters A and U, at least we dont have Bob out there advertising his car insurance with different phone numbers all over the place, its just the white under armour logo, it shouldnt look as bad as it feels.

No they should not build a new ballpark. Wrigley should be designated a historical landmark. I'd much rather spend more money on a ticket than see the place go.
Yes, I saw the boycott info on the ads. I'm sure the company will get more free advertising over the controversy and NO, ads in the outfield.

Anyone remember Connie Mack Stadium/Shibe Park? There were many ads in left field. I don't have any problems with advertisements in the outfield, it's been like that for a while. Here's a picture of Connie Mack Stadium's advertisements in left field.

What's my point? Advertisements in ballparks don't irritate me at all, but Wrigley's constant "Under Armour" may irritate other fans.

Honestly, Under Armor is getting on my nerves. I am tired of seeing the commercials, especially the young boys on the bus. :grouchy
