I know this crosses over into the realm of football, which in a manner of speaking is sort of a no-no for Baseball-fever.com, but who do you appreciate more for what they did/have done for sports in the city of Seattle, Lou Piniella or Mike Holmgren?

It sucks that you can get WGN in Spokane and Tacoma, but not in Seattle. If you want the Cubs in Seattle, you have to get a dish.

This one is really a no-brainer.
Lou Piniella essentially put Seattle on the map, during his time as skipper of the M's the team saw all four of their playoff appearences. While the M's were under His control, they saw 6 of thier 8 winning records. He Was crucial to the m's success. With out him Baseball in seattle would be much different.
As for Mike Holmgren.... Take away what the seahawks did during the 2005/(loser of the super bowl), suddenly his career as head coach of the Seahawkis barely above average, at best.
My 2 cents.

Holmgren's dual role as GM and Coach really hurt his legacy for a while. The Seahawks success after he stepped down from the GM position shows how he hurt the team plenty in the role he was supposed to have.
The Mariners arrived under Pinella, they were no longer doormats. You have to go with him.

I give the edge to Piniella here, but with the recent Sehawks, Holmgren may eventually be able to win out.
Piniella was here for the glory years. He has BOTH '95 (saving baseball in Seattle) AND 2001 (116 wins - pinnacle of baseball in Seattle to date).
