Post any minor league prospect news here.

I think its notable how Micah Hoffpauir(1st base) has been playing at Iowa. He went 3-4 with 2 doubles and 2 RBIs yesterday.

Even more excting is how Rocky Cherry threw in the spring and he continues to pitch well now at Iowa.

For the Smokies last night, catcher Jake Fox went wild going 4-5, with 4 runs, 2 doubles, 2 homers, and 5 rbi. He also threw out a would be basestealer.

He might throw some in Tenn (AA) this year but Iowa is a long shot unless it's as a pen arm and the Cubs plan on keeping him a starter as long as possible. Still The Shark is throwing nearly all fastballs (registering 93-95 mph) with only a few sliders, just like last year. He can get away with that in High A and lower competition but not much further in the developmental game.

Well despite him not being a "true" prospect, I gotta give some props to 27 year old 1B Micah Hoffpauir. In his last 12 at bats, he has 7 hits, 3 runs, 1 double, 8 rbi and 1 walk. Thus far his line is .448/.469/.655/1.124; his 12 total rbi lead the league.

The uber prospect Pie has a hit in everygame thus far (7 games), going 11 for 25 on the season, with 2 extrabase hits (a 2B and HR), he's been hitting out of the third spot.

Despite Samardzija in Daytona, the real story is Mitch Atkins, watch this kid, entering the year he was a sleeper prospect. But the more he pitches, he better he gets. His line thus far is 1-1 in starts, going 10 1/3 IP giving up 6 hits, 3 e.runs, 2 bb, 8 k.

Pie's hitting streak came to an end on Saturday, when he went 0-2 but he drew 3 walks. On Sunday he went 2 for 3 with a rbi, a walk and a strikeout.

Rocky Cherry got his first save yesterday. He might be worth putting in the pen someday sooner rather than later.

Matt Murton

The interesting thing about Murton is he has been a member of the Icubs for a few days now and he has yet to play..

Bob, any info on where this guy is?

Is he upset? Is he making the trips with the team?

Just seems odd to me, the team says we sent him down to get atbats... but he has yet to get one.

Murton has just been taking some days off (on his own accord), look for him to be in the Iowa lineup today. Still Iowa has a similar problem the parent club has, in that there is too many OFs and not enough playing time to go around. Without including Murton, the Iowa Cubs OF is jammed with Kinkade, Moore, Hoffpauir, Walker, and Coats. Murton's the best of them and should be in the meat of the order (3-5), no matter what happens in Iowa, Matt's too good to be there.

With the way Pie takes a walk, he could be an exceptional leadoff man some day. I also like my boy Sean Gallagher.

Gallagher looks like Marshall in his first few games last year. He doesn't get it yet, but when he does, he'll be deadly.
