The Braves released pitcher Mark Redman on Tuesday, ending his short and unsightly stay as the team's fifth starter.

Redman was 0-4 with a 10.62 ERA in five starts before going on the disabled list with an ingrown toenail. His return Saturday went poorly – he gave up a grand slam to Boston's Mike Lowell in 1 1/3 innings of relief – and manager Bobby Cox said afterward he didn't see anything different from Redman.

The Braves called up reliever Joey Devine from Class AA Mississippi. Cox said Devine will fill in until Saturday, when the Braves will bring up a starter from Richmond to pitch against the Phillies.

Cox said possibilities for Saturday's start were Buddy Carlyle (5-1 with a 2.22 ERA in Richmond) and Trey Hodges (2-2, with a 2.06 ERA).All I can say is it is about time.

When will we get a reliable 5th starter? Mark Redman isn't involved with the plan, Anthony Lerew just would not do, the Braves only want the best, who's next?

The guy sucked for two years in KC, so this is no surprise to us.
