Williamsburg PMed me his pick, because he didn't know he could pick whenever he wanted. He has since signed off and didnt see my return PM. In the interest of making this a speedy draft, here is the 1st pick overall...

(Today is the 27th - so I assume you mean the 28th?)

Yeah. Funny thing is I noticed that right when I typed it, but I forgot to change it. Maybe I should already be given the boot as commish.

Anyway, Ronnie is driving to California for the next DAY, so he said he'd call me shortly to make his pick for him.

Also, PLEASE announce what league you would like to be in, DH or No DH when you make your first pick.

Westlake
08-27-2007, 09:43 PM

EDIT: I hate having an early pick. But I'll take Johan Santana and his 10M contract anyway.

Now my second-round pick won't be nearly as good as the ones I was looking at for this one.

Westlake
08-28-2007, 10:34 AM
I'll take Hanley Ramirez.

There is a rosters thread posted. You need to find the contracts of your players (mlb4u.com), and add their salaries next to their names... there it will be easy for you to keep up with your cap.

He told me he was considering Pence, but was on the fence. It's actually, at least partially my fault - once I saw Pence was a CFer, and not a LF/RFer, I told him he should take him.

I don't think you can really say which is better. It depends on what you need more, what you think others will pick, etc.

I'll Take Carlos Pena.

I was considering him to, I was hoping he would fall to the next round and I would have picked him as a DH. I also wondered how good he would be in this game because I don't think he had so much power in the past.

Then again, those from BBFTG know anything with the name Pena must be good!

I was wondering how in the world Penny hadn't been picked yet. Especially with some of the other SP that have been taken. I wanted him, but I needed to take Guillen and Posada first - great players at positions that are running low.

And I see 4 catchers left that are decent, but I wouldn't call any of them good.

Wade8813
09-05-2007, 04:18 PM
Oh, I agree. They're about as good as Johjima. But Johjima also falls into that "meh" category IMO. You don't feel bad taking them, because you need a catcher, but it's not like you feel very good taking them either. Just don't be one of the two people who don't have a catcher yet, and who doesn't get Pudge, Varitek, Pierzynski, or Molina. Because then you do feel bad.

And if someone decides to take a backup catcher, that's one of those four, then even more people will be feeling the pain (although I'd guess that no one will take a backup catcher for quite a while)

Wade8813
09-05-2007, 04:39 PM
Hey, if you don't mind getting stuck with a catcher with about 60 OPS+ (or a catcher with very few AB), I'm sure the others won't mind not being stuck with a scrub there. Although if they also don't worry about catcher, maybe you can get away with not worrying about it for now, and then still nabbing a decent one.

Wade8813

He strikes me as being better than a 4th starter this year (and his actual future numbers don't matter - just the simulated numbers. I doubt they use those scouting reports in quite that way). Besides, there are a few pitchers who've been quite dominant without great power. I'm not saying that he's that good, but I'm not worried about him being stuck as a 4th/5th starter for that reason.

I also doubt the simulation is going to make every guy having a good year continue to be good in the sim. Im pretty sure guys with a good track record are safer bets than someone like Bannister.

Exactly why I'd rather have Tex than Carlos Pena. Pena's having a better year, but Tex is a safer bet. Plus, he's from Baltimore.

I'll take Edgar Renteria.Well, at least you had an excuse... (although does it really take eight hours?)

I tried to get a hold of DMF (his family went on a short vacation that he doesn't want to be on). I'll keep trying to contact him. I do have one person that he said he wanted from earlier, but I think he's changed his mind since then. If I can't get in contact with him in an hour, it's possible he'll tell Washizzle Express who it is he wants to draft (just FYI).

It does. We go there 2 hours early to watch film, then do a pre game no pads then the actual game. There is an after game celebration if we win, which takes like 30 minuts as well.

I took Shields, then switched it to Pedroia, then kept putting off taking Shields over and over until I missed out on the top three lefties left on the board in him, Buehrle, and Gorzelanny. Ah well, I got four great young players.

BTW, nobody on my team makes over 400K aside from Teixeira and Santana, and only those two and Hart are over age 23. And nobody at all is over 28. That's what I call sticking to my game plan.

Wade8813

It was the one he changed his mind about - on page 4, posts #91 & 92, you see Erik pick someone, and then the next post asks if the picked player was related to Scott Shields, which was obviously about this Shields. So EB had him, then edited his pick. We're good

True, I made my team to win the sim, not to make it the youngest. :) I think there is some good in pick all relativly young players to try to win the 3rd WS, but eh. Drafting is for fun though so he chooses young guys because thats who he likes drafting.
