The last weekend of Cinergy Field (2002) they gave away the Cinergy Field models, so that's the one I have. I'm trying to remember if I met the guy or if he was interviewed on TV, but I remember hearing him talk about them. I think he was just starting the company about then.

The details come from the fact they incorporate very detailed photographs into the model, then use the layering of the wood to give the 3-D effect. The backs have nice descriptive material about the park. Becuase it was a giveaway mine has sponsors' logos on the back as well.

Thanks everyone for the replies. I now have a better understanding of what these are. I can't wait for spring training!!!!

Not exactly- as I had mentioned in an earlier post, it's almost like a schizophrenic model of the PG. It does have the Chesterfield sign on the CF clubhouse wall, but it also has the advertising on the OF walls- something it did not have when the Chesterfield sign was there between 1948-1955. The ads on the walls were there from 1923 up until the Chesterfield sign went up in '48 and didn't return until the Mets came into being in '62. To me, it looks like 2/3 Giants and 1/3 Mets- whoever did it must have been looking at a lot of pictures from different eras at the same time. Hey, even the Chesterfield sign had two different versions- just look at pictures from the '51 World Series and the '54 World Series.

The Mets had the Rheingold sign center with a different style of signs on the outfield wall during '62 & '63. All the photos I have of PG have the colored advertisement signs on the outfield walls in the '30's and early '40's, but so far I can't find any with the Chesterfield sign in center and the colored advertisement on the outfield walls.

I'm an infrequent poster here but a long time reader... I know I'm supposed to look over all the past posts to see if I can answer my own question, but seeing as I'm at work right now and really shouldn't be on Baseball Fever, I'm afraid I haven't got the time! So, that said, a few years ago i began working on putting together an independent Brooklyn Sports Museum and went a bit nuts finding and buying up Brooklyn memorabilia. I stumbled on and purchased what LOOKS like a REALLY big Ebbets Field replica and, having been a long time collector of DM replicas (and most Stadium give away replicas i could find) I assumed it was DM... its super realistic with little players on the field and the front part comes out to reveal the famous Rotunda in 3D form! Anyway, when I left the charity I had started I asked my co-workers to keep it in the office until I could come back and resume work on the museum project (we are a Brooklyn based charity) but haven't been back to see it in a long time... any info on this model I'm describing would be highly appreciated!

I certainly understand your wanting to get it for a good price, but I don't see this one on Ebay that often. If memory serves me right, the last one that was on Ebay did go for less than list, but not that much. So unless finances are a problem, I'd say buy it directly from the Danbury Mint - if for no other reason than you're showing financial support towards the people who are producing the item.

Of course, by buying it direct you're gambling that a) you won't find it cheaper on Ebay, and b) at some point the Danbury Mint will stop making them.

For whatever it's worth, I bought mine directly from Danbury Mint.

I bought one of these immediately after they came out and the train was facing the wrong direction along the tracks. I brought that note to their attention and the person told me they would pass it along. Sure enough, they had to correct a whole bunch of them and I was shipped a corrected one.

Did you have to send back the original one?

Do you have any other reason to be interested in the MCI Center besides the fact that it's rare? Are you from the D.C. area?
I wish the Danbury Mint would concentrate solely on baseball stadium replicas.

Why do you say that? If you're only interested in the baseball, that's fine, but don't take away from everyone else.

I've got a Giants Stadium replica (before they added that horrid extension to the Route 3 side), and I'd like to get a Madison Square Garden (preferably hockey setup).

Yes he has said he takes his kids to games there. To be honest I'm surprised you aren't mad that the Mint makes anything besides SAFECO models, being that it is the "best" ballpark in baseball.

Actually my kids live there and they go to MCI quite often. They also go to Jack Kent Stadium which replica I also have. What I like to do is collect every stadium we have visited and all of the baseball stadiums. I need MCI and MSG hockey versions, the others we have are; HSBC Arena, Ralph Wilson & Giants stadiums. I love all of the Mints stadiums, there the best out there by far..... Some venues we have visited the Mint doesn't make. The one I would like the most and probably the one we have visited the most was the Buffalo Auditorium!

Sorry for the repeat post from a few months ago....

But anyone willing to sell their MCI center or HSBC Arena, I am willing to make a very generous offer. I've seen pics of HSBC, and highly regret not buying it when it was available.

For those that were interested in Joe Louis Arena, it looks as though Danbury removed it from their web site...

Also as a side note.... for those interested in the "night version" of Yankee Stadium ($139), DBMINT plans to discontinue it once the season starts.

I always wished the Danbury Mint would have done a 1965 version of the Astrodome because back then it had real grass, a huge scoreboard across the outfield and the seating colors were a lot different. The outside colors were more vivid as well.

I agree that the DM 'Classic' Yankee Stadium, is not well done. Since I've read the original copper 'frieze' was like a shiny new penny in 1923, I decided to paint in that color. I used the metallic copper paint used for 'hulls' of model ships. It looks alot better. I recommend it to anyone who owns one. It improves the 'frieze' alot. willpryce

Just checked it. It is a lighted version. If you use the zooming feature on the enlarged image, you can see the same blue bar with yellow dot along the lights of the stadium replica that "Night Game at Yankee Stadium" has. It's the same price as well.

If you do a search on the DM site it will come up. It is an "Opening Day At Yankee Stadium" replica. It is more expensive than the regular ones so I am not sure what that is about.

Yeah - I was wonder that too. In the past, the "Opening Day at . . " models included a cityscape around the stadium, so maybe this is a preliminary picture.

Just checked it. It is a lighted version. If you use the zooming feature on the enlarged image, you can see the same blue bar with yellow dot along the lights of the stadium replica that "Night Game at Yankee Stadium" has. It's the same price as well.

Good catch. They need to add some text with details - such as the size.

Should we wait and see if they pefect it more once the stadium is open for a few?

I agree that the DM 'Classic' Yankee Stadium, is not well done. Since I've read the original copper 'frieze' was like a shiny new penny in 1923, I decided to paint in that color. I used the metallic copper paint used for 'hulls' of model ships. It looks alot better. I recommend it to anyone who owns one. It improves the 'frieze' alot. willpryceCan you post a picture.......?

I'll post a pic soon, hopefully it will show how much better it looks. To have the freize dark green is not accurate. It's 'made in china', so I don't expect the chinese to know or care about such things). It brings it to life, is a nice contrast and actually makes it look copper, which it was and most people believe that is what the color was in 1923. The paint is great, and you need a good paint brush and put cotton or paper under the frieze to protect the rest of the 'stadium'.

I'll probably paint the frieze on my Yankee Stadium as well. One thing I always did not like was the the way they sculpted the bleachers. Were the bleachers a reddish color? From the angle the photo is taken of the replica on the Danbury Mint site you cannot tell what the bleachers look like. It's also too bad they had to put a flat wall lined up with the support columns. It made the upper deck look very small, although it looks okay with proper placement and lighting.

I'm not sure about the color of the bleachers. The overall 1923 DM yankee stadium is bad, but trying to improve it any way you can, like painting it whatever colors you know are right, can only make it more realistic. I'd even like to get miniature bunting for the '23, but I don't know where.

Actually, it's more like a 1950's OYS as it has the wings of the grandstand, newer bleachers and lights. The first 8 or so stadium replicas were not that good and YS was one of the worst. The shape is all wrong and the interior details are sub-standard.

The RYS, on the other hand, is outstanding.

I wrote to them a while back and asked if they would re-issue OYS using the RYS as a basis (sort of like un-renovating); and/or issue a deluxe/lighted version of OYS - which would be spectacular. But I never heard back.

Issuing a true 1923 version would also be cool.

You're right, the earliest it could be is '46, the 1st year with lights. but my copper frieze idea only works in the 1920's. You're also right that the 1976 stadium is outstanding. I only saw 1 game in the 'Old' park ('71), & it was a special place. I would spend $200 on a deluxe edition, too.

Danbury Mint replicas are by far the best out there, but they are not receptive to new ideas, as I have writin them many times about new models or remakes. It appears we get what is available. Sad...... I have most of the baseball stadium collection which I love, but your right the first eight are not of the high quality that the rest are.

The pics i posted of the 'frieze' painted copper, look orange. but it is copper in person. I also painted the bleachers this copper color. it adds some life (sun-light reflecting off the bleachers and frieze). don't hesitate to use this paint. 'hull copper' MS4837 (Model Shipways Marine Colors). or any colors.

How many versions of Ebbets Field did Danbury produce? I remember seeing a deluxe version several years ago that looked fairly accurate and detailed. Haven't seen that version anywhere for years however. All I see now is a cheap looking version of Ebbets that resembles the crap versions of Shibe and "classic" Yankee.

How did you get the underside of the upper deck to light up? Mine does not have any lights there . . . did you use a external light out of the picture frame?

Yes. It's just a little trickery with a small LED flashlight. The right angle gave that illusion.

I think you had a great idea asking 'danbury mint' to try to make another 1923-1973 yankee stadium - 'un-renovating' - somehow using the mold from the 1976-2008 version. Especially now that the stadium is being demolished, if they knew enough people would spend money on a $75, $139, or $199 replica, they would do one. DM doesn't seem to be too open to suggestions (the replicas are made in china, so maybe that's why you never get a response from them).

I'm so gald to hear this from someone else! I have been emailing the Mint with suggestion after suggestion and it never goes anywhere.... They make what they want and when they are gone they are gone. They could make a killing on replicas of the past and present if they would just listen to the customer. I know I would buy any Baseball park that was done right that they haven't made yet. And buy allot of the ones that have been discontinued rather than pay twice as much on ebay! Oh well, if we keep bugging them we may get some where, who knows... I need 13 more to complete my Danbury Mint Baseball Stadium collection. But like I said I wish they made more.......

Many people have stated that the one DM replica they wanted to be the best, was the worst - '23-'73 yankee stadium. but, i bought one on ebay anyway, because i want all 3 DM yankee stadium replica's. even if everyone on this site wrote to the mint, stating they would spend $200, they would not make a new one.

no but as I got my Shea Deluxe at night replica yesterday, it came with a pre-order form for Citi Field Opening Night replica that will be finished and shipping in the Fall. If it's anything close to the Shea I just got it's gonna be incredible. I just mailed out my reservation for it this morning.

It looks like crud.

It was based on early renderings, so that means it isn't an exact replica of what the final product turned out to be.

Looks slopply made as well, I would wait until the DM's effort.
