Analysis:
My Analysis(before the draft): I'm going for a well balanced team between offense and pitching. Defense and baserunning is usually a small percentage of the game that I usually just overlook it and not get those type of guys. As far the past drafts I've been in, I try to do a balanced team, but generally I end up getting a great offensive team with an average pitching (compared to the other teams) rotation.
Offense: Got a really great offense going on here. This lineup has everything you're looking for. Great AVG/OBP/SLG with some speed in McGraw/Robinson/Walker.
Defense: Ummm.... yeah. Lets not go there shall we? Weakness: C and SS Great: 1B/2B/3B Average (maybe a little above): OF (Walker was great in RF to help out this OF rating)
Baserunning: Nothing special here with my team outside of McGraw and Robinson. Everyone run well on the bases with the exception of Manny probably.
Bench: With Mauer and Jennings, I got great defensive players at my weakest positions (C/SS) as well as good offense along with it. Sheffield is my slugger off the bench and can be a UTIL type guy where he can 3 positions and 2 more in a pinch. Jennings can be pinch runner if needed late in games. I believe they are a good fit and each have a specific roles on the team.
Pitching: My pitching rotation is going to be very VERY solid. Nobody stands out or really spectacular, but they are all very good. I have the top 2 pitchers in history in WHIP with Walsh and Joss (although they played in the deadball era). Gibson is my squad for that intimidation factor and go after hitters. Marichal is a winner and has a great WHIP. Carlton and Schilling will split starts in the 5th spot with Carlton getting the start against lineups that are heavy on lefties. I mainly tried to go after guys with good WHIP as Carlton is the only over 1.20, but he's a lefty as I think it's valuable to have at least 1 lefty in your rotation.
Bullpen: Got a three headed monster in Lyle, Radatz, and Gossage. My bullpen is great. I have way more than enough innings to go around with these guys as they were used to go 1+ innings at a time. Only Scot Shields is under 100 IP per 162 (97.3). The only weakness (if you call this one) is that I don't have one of the "elite" closers, but Gossage is the closest to that although some do think he's "elite". Satchal Paige is my do-it-all pitcher and has the most IP per 162 with 157.7. I think this bullpen is top 3.
Overall: I think this is one of the better team in the draft. I have a great offense that is the best in getting on base. My starters are solid, but they are helped by a great bullpen that can eat up innings. My baserunning and defense are decent enough that it's not a weakness, but it's also not great.
Stadium: I went with Wrigley Field because it was a personal choice of mine. The OF will be suited to my team in that LF and CF won't have to cover a lot of ground as it is a small OF compared to other stadiums. RF is probably the hardest to defend, which is why I got a very good defensive RFer in Larry Walker. It is generally a little more of hitter's park than a pitcher's, but whenever the winds blows in that it turns into a pitcher's park. If it blowing out, then hopefully the other team can keep up with my offense as they will score quite a bit.
