Good pick-up for the Marlins. With a young pitching staff and a young starting catcher, it might have been more ideal to get a Henry Blanco/Gregg Zaun/Paul Bako type, who's been around forever and knows a lot about the receiving aspects of the game, but this should work. Paulino adds some pop to the bench, and he could be productive if he has to fill in for an extended stretch. I think the Bucs, Phils, and Giants gave up on this guy too quickly. Unless they know something I don't, which is entirely possible.

I think it has more to do with Paulino being the odd man out so to speak. Ryan Doumit prevailed as the starting catcher in Pittsburgh, while Philly had the emergence of Carlos Ruiz.

With the Marlins he will certainly have more chances to play. I think its a good move by the Fish.
