Discuss anything and everything about the Detroit Tigers.
I didn't think that there were one of these for the Tigers so I thought, what the heck. It's been a little over a week, and we already have more wins that we did last year at this point. Inge has been hitting, Cabby isn't slumping, and the pitching has been better for the most part.
Sorry about this coming a little late. 11 innings and a loss. 161 to go.
Borrowing an idea from another place here at baseball fever, see if you can name this Tiger. http://i198.photobucket.com/albums/aa111/ryors/untitled.jpg
Instead of just starting a new thread for each new move I want to post about, I thought I'd make this thread. First news for today: Detroit Signed Pitcher Jon Huber to a Minor League Contract http://tsn.ca/mlb/transactions/ Tigers optioned 2B/OF Ryan Raburn, LHP Clay Rapada and C Dane...
I have a question for Tiger fans. In 2006 Verlander struck out just 124 hitters in 186 innings. In '09 he led the majors with 269 strikeouts in 240 innings. So what changes did he make for such a massive increase in his strikeout rate? Even back in '06 he was throwing 98-100 mph. Did he...
I'm trying to find the date of the annual Negro League tribute game the Tigers played in 2000. I'm unable to find any newspaper articles referring to the specific date of this game. Any help with this will be much appreciated.
Hal Manders pitched for the Tigers in 1941, 1942 and 1946. He put together a 3-0 record with a 4.31 ERA in 28 games with the team. He passed away on January 21. He was also the cousin of Bob Feller.
http://freep.com/article/20090903/NEWS05/309030002/1318/Not-even-cancer-diagnosis-can-shake-Harwell-s-spirit I wish the best for him and those that care about him. In my mind I will never forget him.
Two years, $14 million, third year option (team or player???) Tigers lose their 1st round draft pick (#19) to the Astros. I still think it's a good move. Valverde is one of the best relief pitchers around - a much better option than Rodney for only a bit more money and the difference...
What do you think?? It would be a major upgrade for the Tigers if they could pick up Hitting Coach Rudy Jaramillo and Pitching Coach Dave Duncan for the next few years. I know by picking up Duncan we'd most likely have to pick up Chris Duncan too, but that wouldn't be so bad either. With all the...
In a three-team trade today, the Tigers parted ways with CF Curtis Granderson and SP Edwin Jackson. Here's how it breaks down: Tigers get: CF Austin Jackson, #2 prospect in Yankees system who could possibly win the starting gig out of ST; SP Max Scherzer, who is younger and arguably already...
IMO, Pena is virtually the worst player on the Tiger's bench. Sure, he may have 25-30 homeruns in a full season. But he'll have a .200 BA doing it. We probably can't get any actual MLB players for him. So I think we should trade him for one or two good prospects.
I read that Purnal Goldy has passed away. He played his entire two-year career (which spanned from 1962 to 1963) with the Tigers, hitting .231 in 29 games.
I don't have anything else to say. Just needed to share my agony watching this Twins-Tigers game. AGONY!
Here's another story: http://www.thepostsearchlight.com/news/2009/oct/06/baseball-star-powell-dead-35/
Now that the juggernaut that is the Kansas City Royals is in the rearview mirror, we have this ominous weekend series with the Senators. If we take one game, we'd have a 3 game lead with 13 left to go. The proverbial cup would be half full, so to speak. If we sweep this series, the cup would...
Reading through some of the prospects guides, this guy struck me as an interesting option for an emergency starter. And possibly a spot in the rotation a few years from now? Apparently Bonine used to be exclusively a knuckleballer, but then began working in a 90+ mph fast ball as well as a...
The Tigers were able to swing a deal to acquire former Mariners lefty Jerrod Washburn, who is currently third in the AL in ERA, just behind Edwin Jackson. They gave up young lefty Luke French and 20-year-old class A prospect Mauricio Robles. All-in-all, a fairly cheap trade for a rental player who...
How in the world could we let somebody like Scott Kazmir pass right under our noses? He was just traded to the LA/Anaheim Angels for three minor-leaguers. Sure, he hasn't been at his top form this season, but he was certainly rounding into it with a 4-1 record over his last six, including 10 K's...
Jack Phillips played for the Tigers from 1955 to 1957. He was 87 years old. http://www.clarksonathletics.com/news/2009/8/31/GEN_0831092237.aspx
Seeing as Magglio's picked up a bit since cutting his hair, though not really with any power, do you think Brandon Inge's new tattoo can give him a bit more voodoo for the stretch run? It seems like he's been striking out every other at bat for two weeks. He's the second to last Tiger I want to see...
...is this guy not the catcher of the future for the Tigers? I know there is the whole "nepotism" slant to his call-up, but he's obviously proving that he's the real deal and deserves a shot to be here. He is certainly better than any of the back-ups we've had all year, which include the likes of...
Huff's the left-handed power bat the Tigers have needed since forever. I'm certain he'll be predominately a DH, but he can be plugged in at 1B, 3B, and RF. (Whither Maggs?) http://www.baltimoresun.com/sports/orioles/bal-aubrey-huff-traded-817,0,6862054.story
According to my source, the Tigers are interseted in acquiring outfielders Adam Dunn and Josh Wiilingham. The Nats want young pitchers in return.
I really like this move. He can play center field, he bats left handed, and he has speed. He is only 25 years old.
That odd stress fracture in Joel Zumaya's shoulder blade has acted up again, and it's entirely possible that not only could he get arthroscopic surgery on it, but might be out of the rest of this season. That's a bummer. He was looking like he was on the right track health-wise this season and just...
Here is one of the more interesting video clips that you'll regarding Justin Verlander. This video is a clip I shot at an anime convention in Sacramento last year called Sac Anime and the two people are voice actors Vic Mignogna and Travis Willingham. This was also my first time meeting Travis...
