    rested or rusty?

I know I'm jumping the gun by providing a fair bit of speculation, but say the Tigs sweep the A's. The NLCS may very well go 6 or 7 games which would leave the Tigs with plenty of days to wait before the WS starts (the thought of this is so exciting!). Now this would help Casey's chances of getting back in the lineup and would give the pitching staff plenty of rest but is plenty of rest a good thing? Hopefully rest doesn't equal rust. Comments/Concerns/Cries of outrage?
Is it clear? No... well, let's go anyways.

I don't think it'll effect the Tigers that bad if they do have to wait that long for their next opponent. I also don't think we'll be seeing Casey in the field for the rest of the season, as I said in another thread here in the Tigers forum. It would take one bad stretch in game one and Casey would be another wasted roster spot.

Wulp, assuming the good guys make the WS, I think that a few days rest will be beneficial. At this stage of the season, every player is banged up somehow, someway. Playing 170 games or so in 195 days, or there about, is a grueling physical test as well as a mental test.

A long delay may not be so good for keeping the focus and skills sharp. They could play a few innings of simulated games; however, as the bastardized Burger King slogan from a Marvin Gaye song states, “Ain’t nothing like the real thing, baby!”

The Tiger pitchers could take the extra time for some batting practice, to hopefully get there bunting technique down. From the perspective of growing up with an American League team, having the pitchers hit at the MLB level seems very archaic, but that would be another post. This is where having Leyland and his NL managerial experience could be a benefit for the Tigers.

But first, we have to get there.

Amen. Remember how much for granted we took winning the division because of a 3 game set at home against KC? Proportionally, we have a similar situation. Joe Morgan need to remind us to not get too excited

Having said that, if our series ends up being shorter than the NLCS and if we end up winning, Leyland would be able to tweak the rotation if he needed to, and Casey and Zumaya would be 100%

        We'll see what happens!

From what I've heard, Casey most likely will miss the World Series as well, so scrap that plan. Zoom-by-ya should be just fine, though.

CRAP. No one in baseball deserves to be experiencing this more than him. That's disappointing. How reliable was your source? I'm not doubting you, I'm just trying to be hopeful that he returns. If they don't bring on Shelton for the WS (IF we get there ) if Casey is to remain out, they're crazy!

I concur...why not bring Shelton back, if Casey is out ? Perhaps Chris is
                in Leyland's doghouse ? it's not like he's totally forgot to hit..just a
lingering slump....maybe we oughta ask BOSTON to lend us PENA for
                the series....(LOL)

Speaking of a New York / Detroit trade. I heard a rumor that DD has been quietly poking around about A-Rod. If this were to materialize, it would allow Guillen to be a first base specialist and A-Rod can then return to his original position and possibly his original form. I am sure this would all depend on the amount that the Yankees and Rangers are picking up on the enormous contract. Just think Tiger fans, we could almost steal A-Rod from George and the Yanks and Leyland could turn around his career.

I dunno, crazier things have happened.

Reviving my old thread from 6 years ago - I am not superstitious. This subject has been beaten to death this time around. Hopefully our 2, 5-inning scrimmages this year will pay off.

A little something is better than nothing. Frankly, the Giants are good enough to beat the Tigers without excuses, not to mention they do have home fild advantage thanks, in part, to Giants players, one who won't be playing.

I would think they would be ready. if anything, the time off has put Verlander back on the mound for three games, if necessary.

well they were not hitting much against the yanks and As either. in both series pitching bailed the tigers out. I would not write them off yet but it will be very hard.
