    1977-78 Offseason Thread

    --Welcome to the CKL 1976-77 offseason thread. Here is a tenative list of events. If you have a problem with any of them please speak up as soon as possible.
    Tuesday, 5/3 (midnight EST): Non-tender/HTD bid deadline. Every team should also have their up to date roster with salaries posted at this time.
    Friday, 5/6 (midnight EST): Deadline to overbid HTD offers
    Friday, 5/6 (midnight EST): Rookie draft starts
    Monday, 5/16 (8PM EST): Rookie draft ends
    Monday, 5/16(9PM EST): Free agent auctions begins. Preliminary bids must be made one player per post and must be topped in 250K increments
    Tuesday, 5/17 (8PM EST): first bid list posted
    Tuesday, 5/17 (9PM EST): Phase 1 begins, bids still made in 250K increments
    Wednesday, 5/18 (8PM EST): Phase 1 ends, players not overbid signed by teams holding the high bid from the previous evening
    Wednesday, 5/18 (9PM EST): Phase 2 begins, bids must now be made in 500K increments*
    Thursday, 5/19 (8PM EST): Phase 2 ends
    Thursday, 5/19 (9PM EST): Phase 3 begins, bids must now be made in 1 million dollar increments*
    Friday, 5/20 (8PM EST): Phase 3 ends
    * overbids must be at the indicated figure, New bids may be made at 250K at any point int he auction.
    Friday, 5/20 (9PM EST): Live auction begins and runs until each player has gone 10 minutes without a fresh bid (first signing would be 9:10 for a player with no new bid in the live auction).
    Friday, 5/20 (10PM EST): Free signing period begins. Any team under 40 players may sign any unsigned player for minimum wage until they reach 40 players. One signing per post.
    Saturday, 5/21 (midnight EST): teams who went over 40 players in the auction must cut down to 40 and are responsible for the salary of the released players.
    Monday, 5/23 (midnight EST): teams must have 40 players under contract or be charged a 250K per vacant roster space cap penalty.
    Thursday, 5/26 (midnight EST): managerial profiles must be posted.
    Saturday, 5/28: Opening Day!

        --The Corsairs send their first pick in the 1978 draft (9th overall) to the Spikes for 3B Doug DeCinces, OF Jerry Martin and IF Rick Auerback. Mark will confirm.

              Well, Keith has only two years left on his contract and '78 isn't very good. We might have been able to keep him on HTD but there always seems to be someone ready to overbid.

                    My wife and I will be on an Elderhostel Hiking Program in the fingerlakes region of NY from May 14-May 22 or so. I'll do what I can to participate in the FA drafting process.

                      The Lumberjacks will send their 1984 3rd round pick along with Rick Burleson and John D'Acquisto to the Thunder in exchange for the Spikes 5th round pick in 1978, the Gold Sox 4th round pick in 1979, and the Thunder 2nd round pick in 1980.

                      The Thunder send Ed Glynn to the Angels for the Angels 1979 6th rounder.
