It's a sad day. I had a chance to watch Sparky mingle with fans at his 2007 induction into the Canadian Baseball Hall of Fame. He was the kindest most charismatic baseball legend I've ever met. My thoughts are with him and his family.

It's sad to hear. I first started watching and following baseball in 1979, Sparky was new in Detroit, Tigers had Morris, Whitaker, Trammell, and my man Lance Parrish. I loved those Tiger teams. Add in Wilcox, Gibson, Herndon, Brookins, Bergman and wow, what great memories. His 1984 Detroit team I still believe is the best single season team i've seen. Am I biased, sure, a bit. But Sparky and the Tigers put a heluva team on the field that year after being borderline contenders in 82 and 83. I certainly wish Sparky and his family the best
Favorite Players: Ted Williams, Lou Gehrig, Don Mattingly, Barry Bonds, Lance Parrish
Rest in Peace, Skip. Forever my favorite manager of my favorite game. Thanks for everything.

"I played the game long enough to know, and it is impossible for players - I don't care who they are - to hit 70 home runs. It just does not happen." - Hank Aaron
Had a chance to speak to former Detroit Tiger Mike Gardiner, who played under Sparky from 1993 to 1995. Here's my blog entry with Gardiner's reflections: http://www.kevinglew.wordpress.com
