No problem for me- I was just putting it out there as an option. I'm fine with finishing it out normally.
I have to admit there are 2 final picks I'm really looking forward to: Ian and Wade's. Wade, because he can pick from 3 different franchises and Ian because there are SO many great Yankees still available.
For the record, I DONT think Ian is taking the guy we all thought about from early in the draft when he became the last owner to need a Yankee.
Umm - try again. Teddy Higuera had a 117 ERA+. Plesac had a 118 ERA+. Higuera was a starter, but Plesac did it for 9 more seasons (9 compared to 18). Although I will freely admit to having overlooked Higuera entirely, I don't think he's necessarily better than Plesac.
And while I'm admitting to goofing up, I totally didn't realize that Tekulve could qualify as a Philly. I'm not sure if I'd want another Pirate, but thanks for pointing it out![]()
I don't care how we finish, especially since I have a monopoly over my last two picks.
Eddie Yost.
I'm also pleased so see that everyone enjoyed themselves. I personally looked forward every day to coming home and checking my computer to see the latest update. It doesn't end here, though. I'm thinking of starting the playoffs by the weekend.

Just about at the end. I'm trying to create a "real" team. I could take some bigger names, guys with flashier offensive totals. But, I'd like another middle infielder to solidify my bench. Batting lefthanded would be a bonus. Here's a guy who switch hits, plays good defense at short, second, and third- and hit 249 career homers. I'll take
Jose Valentin.
In case it doesn't get to me by the morning I'll make my pick. No sense in waiting around for nothing.
My final pick is Frank White. No Roids is still on the clock until 1:50 AM EST.

OK,
My final 2 picks:
From the White Sox- LHP Billy Pierce
From the Tigers-1B Hank Greenberg!
Okay, my last pick. From the Reds, Hall of Fame lefthander
Eppa Rixey.
I decided to go with a 10 man staff- I think it will be enough. I've got 6 HOFers, plus certain future HOFer Mike Mussina plus Roger Clemens, usually considered one of the five greatest pitchers in history.
Guys, I know this is WAY OT but I have a fantasy BB question, I'm in a std roto 5x5 draft league- we are allowed 2 keepers- 1 hitter, 1 pitcher. My hitter is an easy choice-Joey Votto. I have a serious dilemma for my pitcher though. Who would you keep out of David Price, Josh Johnson and Justin Verlander?
I'm in favor of Josh Johnson.
Mythical SF Chronicle scouting report: "That Jeff runs like a deer. Unfortunately, he also hits AND throws like one." I am Venus DeMilo - NO ARM! I can play like a big leaguer, I can field like Luzinski, run like Lombardi. The secret to managing is keeping the ones who hate you away from the undecided ones. I am a triumph of quantity over quality. I'm almost useful, every village needs an idiot.

So everyone's waiting to see who I'm going to take with the final Yankee pick. It's not DiMaggio. It's not Dickey. It's not Jeter, Gordon or Ruffing. It's not Nettles, Randolph or Pettitte. It's a guy who gives me all kinds of security with a lead after eight innings. Yes, that's right, I'm talking about...Mariano Rivera!

So I guess once Wade makes his final pick we'll be done with the draft. I guess I'd better go post my roster in the other thread now.
I need someone who can be a backup 2Bman, so I'll take Chase Utley.
All right!! Now we can all start making outrageous claims about why our team is SO MUCH better than everybody elses! Wade: my team's got an average OBP of .600, and I've got 11 guys who average 85 homers per year! BigRon: my team's got 20 Hall of Fame pitchers and so much offensive/defensive/pitching balance it's impossible to upset it! And on and on! Who's first?
Not me! I'm too intimidated to brag about my team.
The way I see it, all of our teams have something in common. I'm pretty sure that we all have at least 4 HOFers in our rotations and 8 more in our starting lineups.
Some of us might even have a couple more on the bench or in the bullpen. So there isn't much to set us all apart there.
I think the differences come in with our non-HOF players. That's where the differences will be the most noticeable.
Speaking for myself, I think I have a power-heavy starting lineup but I have some good speed on my bench so I can also trot out a quicker lineup. I don't think I did a great job with my bench though.
I should've taken BJ Surhoff as my Brewer instead of Fielder. His versatility would've helped me more than a THIRD 1Bman.
I also might've been better off taking Percival as my Angel and Fisk as my White Sox, but then I would've been without Billy Pierce as my long-man lefty.
On that note, I wish I had taken another lefty SP in place of Vance or Radbourn.
Ah well, woulda, coulda, shoulda, right?
