    Player Per Team Draft

    Rules are subject to change
    1) In snake-style draft, each person shall pick one player from each MLB team existing in 1969. However, you can pick anyone from any team whenever (era is no factor). You can choose Bob (1938-1950) from the Boston Red Sox in round one, then head over to the Chicago Cubs and pick Bill (1993-2006) in round two.
    2) Teams are, more specifically, franchises. i.e. rather than choose someone from the Seattle Pilots, players from the Milwaukee Brewers are also game.
    3) This is a career draft. Players' entire careers are criteria.
    4) A player must have played at least 700 games for a team (200 for pitchers) to qualify.
    5) Players must have at least 400 games at a position to qualify. The 400 games don't have to be with the specific team, just their entire career. If they have at least 100 games at another position, they are eligible to play that as backup for your roster.
    6) Left and right fields are interchangeable for your rosters. Center fielders can play corner outfield.
    7) We will have a designated hitter (from any position).
    8) Our 25th roster slot is a wild card that goes to any player who qualifies with at least 300 (200 for pitchers) games for a 19th century team non-existent with the 24 ones in 1969. (Dan Brouthers with the Buffalo Bisons; 439 games).
    9) Once rosters are complete, we will hold a playoff to be explained at a later time.
    10) Drafters have eight hours for each pick (excluding from 2am-8am EST). After that, the next person can pick and the skipped person must make up their pick at any time. Feel free to PM your picks to someone so they may give your pick if you know you will miss the deadline.

Draft officially starts tomorrow, Feb. 24th, at 3:00 PM.

The 25th roster spot: 2 questions. One, does that pick have to occur in Round 25, or can it be taken anytime? Two, do non-existent 1969 franchises include only older 19 thc. teams, or do they also include post- 1969 franchises, e.g. Arizona Diamondbacks?

I'm not positive about the first question, but my guess is that the "25th roster spot" can be picked at any time.

For the second question, I can tell you with certainty that we're only counting 19th-C. teams, as this question came up in the other thread.

As long as we're here, I have a question about the draft format. When me make our choices, do we have to declare the player's name, the franchise we're drafting him from, and the position at which we're drafting him?

We shouldn't have to declare what team/position. It would take away the value of picking flexible players.

Okay, let's get this out. Here's a classic case- Darrell Evans played more than 700 games each for the Braves, Giants, and Tigers. Are you suggesting that when/if he is drafted, the owner should not need to declare at that time what franchise he is being drafted from?

There are two sides to the argument. If we have to declare team and position, it makes it easier for the other drafters to strategize, because they know which teams the others have picked from, as well as which positions they're set at.

On the other hand, if we don't have to declare team and position, it allows more flexibility in drafting. If you pick Darrell Evans you have the option of putting him at first or third, as well as the option to designate him as a Tiger, Brave or Giant depending on which players from which franchises are still available.

I don't think we should have to declare position in advance. If a player qualifies under the rules, let the manager play him where he wants. Let's see what Tyrus says. I think the franchise issue is more interesting.

The 25th spot can be picked any time, but the team has to be defunct 19th century.

I've been mulling the franchise thing around in my head. Here's the final take: You don't have to declare anything about the player you picked. The position and franchise will remain anonymous until the final team roster is given. Remember, though: only one player per team for each of us. We'll stick to the honor system. In other words, you can pick Darrell Evans as your Braves pick, but that means all bets are off for other Braves (Spahn or Aaron) who only qualify for the Braves. However, if Joe Smith played 700 games for the Braves and 700 for Phillies, then you could take Joe Smith as your Phillies representative. Sound fair?

One last thing: any objections to Brad Harris joining? If not, I'll put him after Wade in the draft order.

One more thing, if I were to pick Evans, since I dont have to declare anything about him, I still have options with regard to all 3 teams he played for. When the time comes, if I want guys who only played for the Tigers and Giants, then Evans becomes my Brave by default. Same thing goes if I draft a Giant and a Brave, Evans becomes my Tiger.

No one will know since we dont have to declare anything until the draft is done.

This means that we'll have to follow the draft closely.

You won't necessarily have to follow the draft closely. There is an additional benefit if you do so, but you could probably select a team that's just about as good without following extra closely.
