    I've heard the answer was John Wathan, who stole 36 in 1982.

    For the modern era, he's the leader, but there are a few 19th century guys with more. King Kelly tops the list with 56 in 1888, though he wasn't a pure catcher.

    John Wathan is correct, I believe, but it must be noted that I saw Carlton Fisk steal two bases in one game when he was 42 years old.
