----------------------------------------------------------------The New York Yankees Team Photo Collection

Yes, I know. I've been lavishing a lot of attention on the Yankees of late.

    I've done:
    Yankee Stadium
    Colonel Jake Ruppert
Why Were the Yankees Baseball's Most Important Team?
    1926-28 New York Yankees
Were the New York Yankees slow to integrate?

Plus I'm keeping on with Bill's Babe Ruth Photos.

Presently, the best New York Yankees team photos are scattered among Vintage, Panoramic Thread, Historical Archival Photographs, and others.

So, this thread is intended to consolidate them. We have a lot of Yankee fans on Fever and this is intended to blow them a Thanksgiving kiss - a gift. Just to prove that those who are not Yankee fans can do the right thing. Hoping this thread gives them a profound sense of satisfaction and joy!

Some of the obscure ones were best guesses using the other '28 Spring training photo we have. The unknown guy, far left, third row from top looks real familiar, but I can't quite pull the name out.

Bill, much thanks for this thread! it brings back memories of my first and to this date only trip to Cooperstown.

Back in November 1997, living in Richmond, Virginia, never having been to the HOF in Cooperstown (no idea why as my Dad and Mom were also baseball fans), preparing to move even further South, my wife and I decided to take a spur-of-the-moment 3 day jaunt to Cooperstown. We figured if we moved further away, we might never get there.

Off we went, Richmond to Cooperstown. I don't know how many miles that is but it's a long days drive. Rained, heavy at times, all the way. Rain water sluicing down the northern Pennsylvania mountain roads. Finally arrived in Cooperstown around 6 or 7 PM. Drove through the village. Found a Holiday Inn outside town to stay at. Dead tired from the drive.
next morning, early, went into Cooperstown for breakfast at a restaurant just up the street. Baseball pictures (one stands out in my mind: Stan Musial laughing and playing the violin I think at that restaurant) and momentos hanging everywhere. I kept wedging in between diners to see the pictures.

Was at the HOF right at opening next day. Ticket punched 3 minutes before actual opening. Walked in....dream come true. Nellie Fox game uniform was hanging in a class exhibit as he had just been elected. It looked so small. I looked for tobacco juice stains. LOL. Spent first couple hours in rotunda looking at the plaques. At the end of the rotunda was small room. I later learned that the HOF changes the exhibit regularly.

As I was reading the plaques, my wife walked over to the small room. She came back, told me that I need to see the room. I walked over. As I approached I read the heading over the arch, 'The Face of Baseball'. I walked in....the exhibit was Yankee baseball history! Everything you wanted to know about the Yankees from 1921 to present. They had these team pictures displayed. I was in heaven. My wife laughed when I pointed out things like 'Chicken Hawks' from the early days.

These pictures bring back great memories of that trip. My wife and I have taken some great trips on vacations. But that 3 day trip was the best and greatest of my life. We were at the HOF when it opened and they had to ask us to leave with a smile when they closed. It was past the tourist season, November. Cold and rainy, the village, HOF, and Museum were nearly empty. We had the run of the place, no jostling with crowds, able to stand and read/look at nearly every display. Absolutely perfect.

    Thanks, Bill.

    Yankees Fan Since 1957

Gee, thanks, Yanks. I was thinking about offering to post this thread in the Yankees' Forum. Maybe their fans would like it and not have to visit History to enjoy it.

    What do you think?

In his book, Baseball's Golden Age: The Photographs of Charles M. Conlon, Charles Conlon had created a photographic portrait of some of the 1927 of New York Yankees. So, here they are. I hope they assist GaryL and Bmarlowe in conducting their identifying work for us.

I do like this thread about other Yankee player photos that helped the Yankees win their early Championships. Keep up the good work.

In 1929, Bill Dickey was just a star-struck rookie on the Yankees. He went around snapping photos of his teammates during pre-game warm-ups. These photos are from his collection in Heritage Auctions of the Bill Dickey estate. They are: Gehrig, Lazzeri, Hoyt, Durocher, Dickey himself, Pipgras, Shawkey, Zachary, Meusel, Koenig, Durst, Paschal and bat boy, Eddie Bennett.

May this post assist GaryL in his identifying work!

The first photo in this post is dated 1929 on the far left... I think. That might be a seven with a hook, as the nines, if it is 1929 don't appear to be written the same way. The hundreds nine has a loop of sorts...

Thanks to Second Base Coach for finding a photo of C.E. Pat Olsen who roomed with Lou Gehrig in 1924 Yankees Spring Training.

Pat Olsen is in between Bob Meusel and Walter Beall in the first 1924 Yankees photo.

Oops. Just saw this last post. Sorry about that Dto7. I just inserted his name into the 1924 Yankees post. Good eye. Thanks, again, Don!
