Tuesday, May 17th Pirates @ Washington rained out

A storm front drawing moisture from the Atlantic and rain over much of the northeast caused the Nationals to cancel Tuesday's game against the Pirates.

The Pirates will return to Washington on July 1st through 3rd but the date/time of the make up game is still to be determined.

Next game: Wednesday, May 18th vs the Mets in New York, game time 7:10PM EDT

Friday, May 20th Washington Nationals 17, Baltimore Orioles 5

Interleague play resumes as the Nationals make their way to Baltimore for the 2011 version of the "Battle of the Beltways".

The anemic Nationals offense that had been shut out 7 times this season, including their last 2 games, FINALLY comes to life with a 17 run, 19 hit attack as the Nationals set a new team high for home runs since the franchise moved from Montreal to Washington in 2005.

Washington starter Jason Marquis pitched 4 innings giving up 8 hits, 5 runs 3 walks and 2 strikeouts. The win went to Henry Rodriguez. Washington used 4 pitchers in the game.

For the Orioles starter Jake Arrieta is charged with the loss, going 3.2 innings giving up 6 hits and 6 runs including 1 home run while striking out 2 and walking 3. The Orioles used 5 pitchers.

The Orioles managed doubles by Felix Pie, Matt Wieters and Mark Reynolds while the Nationals countered with triples from Wilson Ramos and Danny Espinosa and a 6 home run attack from Roger Bernardina, Laynce Nix, Wilson Ramos, Danny Espinosa and Jayson Werth, who homered twice.

Both teams left 8 runners on base.

The final line: Nationals 17 runs, 19 hits, 0 errors, Orioles 5 runs, 12 hits, 0 errors.

Next game: Saturday, May 21st vs the Orioles in Baltimore, game time 4:05PM

Nationals record: 21 wins, 23 losses

          Current streak: 1 win

The final line: Orioles 8 runs, 14 hits, 1 error, Nationals 3 runs, 7 hits, 1 error
