Thinking about possible ways to make things as equitable as possible given the nature of things. Open to suggestions. Would like to get about 12 teams for the draft though might do it with fewer, but want to give this time to find more participants.

We probably won't find too many more unless you go actively recruiting people.

    OK, that makes 7 then.

Anybody else have any other ideas/suggestions regarding the draft?

I'd prefer a 4-5 hour window to vote. 2 hours is unreasonable and 8 will make everything drag too long. As far as the draft order...I'l leave that up to you to come up with a solution.

8 hours won't necessarily make things take too long (especially if we don't have a lot of participants). It's the maximum, so it's not uncommon for multiple people to pick in 8 hours. However, if we made it 4-5 hours, anyone who has any time commitments (school/work/whatever) would be at risk to miss their window without even being able to get to their computer each day. Even if they check the draft before leaving and check as soon as they get home, they may be skipped.

I've been in 2 drafts here so far and I think I've only seen one person passed over for a pick. I'm in favor of keeping the window open longer to allow people a chance to get in front of a computer. For me its not much of an issue-almost everyday I can get in here from work unless my entire day is spent off-site which is rare. But it doesnt work that way for everyone.

Also-anybody else have additional opinions about how to handle the rest of the "infrastructure" questions? it seems to me there are 3 ways to do the draft:
1-a fixed draft order with pre-set criteria being filled every round (my personal least-desirable option-it really screws the people drafting in the middle of every round)
2-a fixed draft order with owners free to fill whatever criteria they choose (my favorite option, I've been in 2 other drafts that were both run this way)
3-a randomly determined draft order every round with pre-set criteria every round (would definitely create the most work possible for Brad to run the draft and can cause delays and confusion)

This is something I could do if people agree it's the most feasible solution. Else, I'm inclined to go with Option 2

I like the random raft each round option too. A person is bound to get luckyt and a person is bound to get screwed...all part of the game.

Option 2 is better than option 3. It's more fair for the participants, and it's less confusing.

If you have a constantly changing draft order but each round is pre-set, then you still have the problem that some rounds will inherently be better than others since different players will qualify for each round. You'll almost certainly have some rounds where whoever picks first that round gets a huge advantage over whoever picks last, some rounds where picking first isn't much of an advantage.

If we have a fair drafting order & reasonable time to pick, I'm in
Mythical SF Chronicle scouting report: "That Jeff runs like a deer. Unfortunately, he also hits AND throws like one." I am Venus DeMilo - NO ARM! I can play like a big leaguer, I can field like Luzinski, run like Lombardi. The secret to managing is keeping the ones who hate you away from the undecided ones. I am a triumph of quantity over quality. I'm almost useful, every village needs an idiot.

I'd say 2 is preferable, 1 is acceptable, and 3 might be a disaster

I'd prefer 1 for simplicity and 2 for fairness.

I'd rather be randomly screwed over than systematically screwed over. Either way, I'd rather play the game with a degree of unfairness than not at all, so hopeful a final decision will be made soon.

OK, if I'm counting correctly, we're up to 8.
    Brad
    Ron
    Wade
    Erik
    Me
    RMB
    Wally World
    STLCards2
I know Brad said he'd like to get around 12 people involved. The only other person I've spoke with is Ian from the PPT draft and he said he cant do one right now. Since I'm the new guy around here, I dont know a ton of people on this board so I cant help with recruiting.

Eight always seems to be a reasonable number to me. What do you say, Brad?

We'll start Monday with eight teams. I'm going to post five rounds - in advance - at a time. During each grouping of five rounds, you may select a player on the basis of any of the five categories. At the end of the five rounds, you must certify which of the five categories each player is going to be slotted under. The draft order will be randomly reordered and the next group of five is going to be posted in advance. So on and so forth. Hoping this will help even the inequalities while maintaining some sense of mystery.

I'll make a final decision in twenty-four hours after I hear any feedback. One way or another, we'll start on Monday.

Posting them only 5 at a time might work, but it does mean it will take longer because you'll probably have to pause the draft to give us time to research. Also, you'll have to try to somewhat balance each group of 5 - you have to make sure that the even and odd rounds both have access to approximately equal pools of players over the course of the draft.

    ----

Just an FYI, I'm going to be doing Army stuff for the next 5 weeks. I should have internet access every day, but I'm unsure how frequently I'll have time to get on. I would guess I'll be able to get on fairly regularly for the first 2 weeks, but then for the last 3 weeks I'm going to be down in CA. So if you give us the pick requirements sooner, I can kill any downtime researching and figuring out who I want to pick
