My biggest gripe with Girardi over the years was that he was an absolute slave to the pitch count, and innings count as well. This year I think he has greatly improved by not over-working his bullpen. But yeah, starting him up again in the 8th was a bit unnecessary.

My biggest gripe of the night was hearing the commentator for the Mariners pretty much jump in joy about CC's try at history being ended..... I understand that you don't want to see your team on the bad side of a perfect game or a no-hitter, but to practically celebrate it?

Just because he has a degree from the fancy IL. school don't mean he's too smart. Aside from a few speed bumps early in the year this is one of the better seasons I have ever seen a pitcher have. CC is da man.

I hate Felix Hernandez. This ******* never pitches like this against the Red Sox. Useless piece of crap.

Phil Hughes IS ******* USELESS! Get rid of him. I dont care, 2 runs to SEATTLE? 4 HITS TO SEATTLE IN AN INNING? Absolute trash. I wanna punch him in the face.

Why give up on him? he is being terrible, but last year he was very good. Couldn't he just having a down year and bounce back next season? he is young guy after all.
I think walks are overrated unless you can run. If you get a walk and put the pitcher in a stretch, that helps, but the guy who walks and can’t run, most of the time he’s clogging up the bases for somebody who can run. – Dusty Baker.

He shows absolutely no signs of imporivng, at all. I think 2010 was just a fluke. Never pitched well at all, this year, except that Cleveland game which was on the road I think.

I am tired of this guy. When will he get better? Hes not hurt. So whats up with him? Maybe hes not meant to pitch in New York.

Hughes pitched 6 innings and gave up two runs. Sounds like a pretty decent start to me. Why are you venting your frustration toward him of all people?

Well overall he might be the worst starter in the AL to date in 2011 (8.2 ERA). However I agree with you that this start was solid, it was not his fault that the offense didn't score for him.

I still wouldn't give up on him yet. many pitchers had one terrible season half.

He's pitched all of 31.2 innings this season and he started the season with a completely dead arm. I don't think it's fair to call him the worst starter in the AL. His ERA since returning from the DL is "only" 5.48.

Its not solid, its Seattle. If this was Red Sox it would be 7+ runs.

But cant complain because the BP was atrocious. Jesus H. Christ that was beyond horrible.

    5/1/11 - @ Boston - 7 IP, 6 H, 2 ER, 1 BB, 10 K - No Decision
    8/25/10 - @ Boston - 7.1 IP, 4 H, 1 ER, 1 BB, 9 K - Win
    7/3/09 - @ Boston - 7 IP, 7 H, 3 ER, 2 BB, 7 K - No Decision

Two excellent starts and one very good start prior to his hiccup against the Red Sox last week ... hmm.

But hey, I guess he didn't struggle against the Yankees on May 28 this year (though the Yankees still lost because Nova and Rivera couldn't hold down the fightin' M's offense). The difference in Hernandez's ERA against the Yankees and Red Sox is almost entirely due to his poor start against the Red Sox last week.

    Anger Management for Gardner?

Team has its share of problems but still sports the 3rd best record in baseball. Boston will represent the AL in the WS.

Best record doesn't mean the best team or/and team that will make it to WS. As the past has proven time and time again.

Anything can happen in the post season. Just get there and see. Nurse Colon in healthy if possible. See if you can get Hughes and/or Burnett right. See if Manny may be able to help?

Put in a claim for Wandy. Worst case it's just $. Best case you force Houston to only deal with you.

Manny Ramirez won't help anyone this postseason since he must serve a 100 game suspension if he does decide to come back. Not sure if you were joking when you refer to Ramirez. lol

I feel that there's a fair chance that the Astros push Wandy Rodriguez through waivers ... not many teams will risk a claim, knowing that the new ownership has issued a mandate to severely slash payroll, and that retaining Rodriguez would tie up something like 50-60% of their budget in a handful of players.

I assume he meant Manny Banuelos.

Why would you want to give up anything to get somebody that's not any better than what you already have? Unless it's a major step up, I wouldn't give up any of the prospects.

As Dom pointed out Manny refers to Manny Banuelos or ManBan! He just got promoted to AAA at age 20.

I don't think innings wise he is an option in the rotation but might b a LH bullpen option forthe post season if Marte does not make it and Romero can't cut it.

    Just don't Joba him.

I've read there is no way Wandy is claimed. Personally I would. If you can get him for just dollars it's a big plus for the Yanks. He's not great but a nice number 3 and since we did not get a #2.

ManBan is a projected starter right? I dont want this guy being Jobad. I want this guy developed properly. Let him pitch deep, 6 innings or more, in AAA before even thinking about calling him up. When hes ready for AAA of course.

He got promoted to AAA to start.

But I think he will hit an innings limit soon. He missed time last year with an appendectomy. So they will either shut him down or get some work out of the pen.

Option 2 could help the big club. Just don't let the Francessa crowd clamor Manny is a da Rewiever.

Nice job by Hughes today. I know Sox have trouble scoring runs now a days but 6 innings, 3 hits, 0 runs? Not bad. Sign of things to come? We can only hope.

Hopefully. Let's face it, he's lightly used this year. He should actually be fresh. Best case scenario is that his 2nd half resembles last year's first half.
