I wish they'd dump the two tone road cap, and go with all blue, all the time. Not gonna happen this year apparently. Sigh.

Me three. I so hate the black in Met uniforms. (....except for perhaps the helpful little drop-shadow, hehe.)

I'd also like to formally inaugurate the second annual Official Mets Uniform Log, and thank theAmazingMet for its presence. Amazing, I assure you, I'd sticky it if it weren't so cluttered up there.
    Put it in the books.

Thats OK, by mere design this thread will always be on Page 1, as it is updated daily.

Good point, and I consider that its pragmatic saving grace.

Nice job amazin. Awful, awful hat and jerseys. It is the worst. Just went looking for a an old school Knicks jersey without the back outline. On my search I saw a Mitchell and Ness 86 Gooden jersey. Beautiful. Orange, blue, and white, what a concept.

The 86 racing stripes are so retro cool, wish hey could incorporate them somehow without it being too corny. And, the new "throwbacks" suck. Dang Mets, they try so hard to do the right thing but they always manage to screw up. I saw the off-white Giants and Phillies jersey and they look great. The Mets add a black shadow for absolutely no reason.

    Just saw this: http://www.metsblog.com/2009/10/22/n...atthew-weiler/

Not too bad. I think it'd have to be a button down though, and the font on the stripes can be toned down a bit. Let's not forget the 80s were all about excess.

I agree. I would love to have the racing stripes incorporated as an homage to the 86 team (although I would make the racing stripes smaller and make it a conventional button down jersey as opposed to the old school V neck) as well as getting rid of the black dropshadows from the pinstriped jerseys to make it a true throwback uniform. I would also love it if they replaced those ugly black jerseys with a all blue jersey with orange letters.
Hopefully once the Wilpons are gone the new owners will get rid of the black.

I disagree, I really like the black Met uniforms, I just wish they'd save them for special occaisions (ie, only wear them one day of the week, like Saturday or Sunday, or else ony wear them for rivalry games, like against the Braves and Yankees a la the Piazza Era.)

In my opinion, there should be just three Met uniforms:

Home White w/ BLUE cap (and then either pinstriped or solid white, I don't know, I like both...which would you prefer?)
    Road Grey w/ BLUE cap
Alternate Weekend/Rivalry Black w/ BLACK hat

The Mets should (like Toronto, Cleveland, and others) revive the 1980's racing stripes uniform as a new alt. They would make millions in merch sales, at least much more than they get selling the hated black tops. This is where the Wilpons are out of touch with the average fan. The early 90's Mets racing stripe jersey (button down) would look mint!

The 86 racing stripe uni was an abomination. Too bad they won a series wearing those and not the classic unis. Then we could have forgotten they existed. The grey road unis in the 80s with the script New York were awful too.

Can do without the black too.

Out of curiosity--why does everyone have so much hatred for the black uniforms?

It's pretty sleek in my opinion...again, I think overuse is the issue--wear it once a week or for a few rivalry games a year, and I think folks would feel a lot less animosity towards them...

The problem is that the Mets are one of the only teams that utilizes 3 primary colors. It's over kill. Just imagine if the cubs added a black, blue, and red jersey with a two tone cap with a black crown, blue brim, and a red, blue, and white C. I would never want to see that, and have been waiting for about 13 years for this Mets in black to just go away already.

Would love to see the 80's racing stripes come back. When the 2006 Mets wore them to honor the 1986 squad for a weekend series they looked great to me and it felt like I was watching the Mets as they should be. Also could they get rid of the orange button on the blue hat? Hate it, plus the blue has become way too light, darken it up a bit like the original blue was. I have a game used joel youngblood mets hat from the early 80's that I wear, and the difference in the blue from this hat to today's blue cap is stark.

Simple. It's not one of their colors. It was put in in the 90s when black unis were all the rage, see Chisox, Raiders, LA Kings, etc... It's a gimmick, it's corny, and now it's just played out and ugly.

Speaking personally, the use of black as a primary color makes the uniform look dull and drab looking, compared to the vibrant blue orange uniforms used in the past. This is exacerbated by the gray road uniforms. Unlike others, I wouldn't mind if they kept the black drop-shadows on the lettering (black was used by the NY Giants, so there is a justification), though it is totally unnecessary on the cream colored pinstripe jerseys.

I agree about the black, but I also feel everything you said about them being a gimmick and ugly applies to the racing stripe unis too. Those aren't the mets uniform.

The Mets colors were never black, and the move to black was done simply as a marketing tool to generate merchandise sales. It was a money grab move, and Mets fans old enough to remember consider it as such.

True, but it is their colors. It's awesomely bad, like Hall and Oates. I'm just saying it'd be interesting to see how that'd look if it weren't so thick. As for the real 86 ones, you can just wear those like once a month, or a few times a year.

At this point I would take anything that incorporates just blue and orange. Sometimes when I'm at Citi Field it amazes me how the team sometimes feels completely different from the version I grew up rooting for. Things used to be colorful and energetic when they played at Shea with their blue and orange racing stripes. Now everything seems kind of dark and drab from the stadium down to the uniforms.

How many years did they even have the racing stripes? Wasn't it just a mid-80's thing? Not like it's a major part of their history.

They wore that during game six. Even if it was just for that one day it'd be a major part of their history. Hank's 715 was in that weird Braves jersey, Fisk's homer was in a weird pullover as well. I'm sure those are beloved jerseys for the respective teams despite their limited run. And I think it was from like 83ish-93ish
A fish stinks from the head down. Sell the Mets.
