I think there were two ways to lock in 2012 pricing for 2013:

    (1) By making a timely deposit for 2013 in July as discussed above

    (2) By purchasing FST seats on site at the "select a seat" event last November.

As far as all this hurry-up-and-pay stuff goes, it supports what I've cynically said awhile back about them only being as nice as they have to be. They were A-1 jerks a few years ago when they had the leverage over the fans, and only became such warm and fuzzy fan-friendly people when they lost that leverage and had to drastically lower prices among other things.

So, as soon as they have ONE hot item to sell (the ASG), it's "pay now, or else." It kind of takes the edge off wanting them to ever have a contender because once they do, it'll be right back to the 2009 policies of obscenely high pricing, highly restricted club access, no perks, etc.

But I suppose that's a discussion for another day.

Well you see, they tied it in with locking in your postseason options for 2012, so of course they need the month of September to print those playoff tickets.

Understood. However, they didn't have to tie it in with the 2012 post-season tickets (especially since that likelihood is remote). They could have had 2 separate transactions. However, I understand why they did it this way. I just don't like it.

That was my understanding as well but the email today could have made it totally clear by restating that. Instead it says "You must submit payment by August 31, 2012 to lock in your 2012 Season Ticket Holder prices for the 2013 season". They are silent on the ASG seat deposit securing your locked-in prices. I can see this causing lots of phone calls or emails to the Ticket Reps.
Travis, you're a year too late!

    I AM SO THERE

I'm a big fan of the LaFrieda burger meat purveyed through Fresh Direct. It's really good stuff.

I bet this LaFrieda cheesesteak au jus with jack cheese >> Philly "wit wiz" crap

I don't expect to be able to pay the balance whenever I want. But I paid the requested amount in June, in return for "locked-in" 2012 prices. To say I lose that right unless I do something else by some date is BS. Maybe if I pay the additional deposit on August 31, I'll get an email in October saying I need to run three laps around Citi Field in 5 minutes or else I'll be subject to a price increase. "Locked-in" should mean "locked-in".

And what about those people who didn't pay up in June? Do they get a second chance to lock in 2012 prices? If so, that makes the rest of us who sent in our $250 per seat suckers.

This stinks of Mets Ticket Office circa 2009.

If you'd rather have whatever frozen steak crapola they keep on hand at the Express Deli versus Pat LaFrieda meat, well, you might as well stick to White Castle!

Ain't nothing wrong with WC, I indulge in them myself from time to time, but it's really not to compare.

I agree, but isn't that what Lobel's charges for their steak sandwich at Yankee Stadium?

The steak sandwich is being eaten live on the radio broadcast. Howie Rose and Josh Lewin are both eating a sandwich.

I'm pretty sure the lobster sandwich at Catch of the Day is just as expensive.

Yup, his name is Javier. I eat like a glutton at Citi Field and I ran into him last year shortly after they opened Keith's grill. I was shoving a Mex burger down my gullet and he stopped to ask how everything was. He was the guy that did the burger bit with Keith on SNY. He seems to take his job very seriously, he's always walking around checking things and asking people how the food is. Too bad the product on the field is not as awesome as the concessions :-/

    I went, I found, I ate, I liked.

The stand is located behind section 139, to the left field side of Shake Shack, by the escalator that goes up to the Left Field Landing seats.

Quality isn't cheap: the sandwiches cost $15, which is a lot. But in my book, it's better than having two Shack Burgers or 2 slices of Two Boots pizza, and not much more.

This is also the ONLY Pat LaFrieda retail stand anywhere, period; they're usually meat purveyors to places like, well, like Shake Shack, among other well known high end restaurants in NYC. Plus they supply a line of ground meat burgers of different blends through Fresh Direct in NYC, which I am a HUGE fan of - easily the best burger meat I've ever found.

These steak sandwiches don't consist of some chopped steak or frozen pressed meat patties - they're actual pieces of selected "Black Angus" cuts of filet mignon:

Am I going to get these every time I'm at Citi Field? Probably not. Would I say this is in the running for the "must have" item at Citi Field for a visitor who's at the ballpark for one and only one game? Hell yeah!

$15? Hell, that's worse than Philly!

But who am I kidding, I know I'll have one.

its really good, i had it tonight. i personally think it rivals lobels and the nyy steak sandwich over at yankee stadium. i think you get a little more bang for your 15 bucks with this sandwich over the other two options at the stadium. if you go to citi field, treat yourself to the sandwich. you wont regret it

Haven't been on in a while, but the renewal email pissed me off enough to seek others' opinions. Couldn't agree more with Mr. B.

I did both #1 and #2 above -- upgraded to Metro Box at the Select a Seat event, and was guaranteed 2012 pricing for 2013. No mention ever of an expiration date on that offer, or that I would have to start paying before this season was even "in the books".

This is bad, and actually is a big deal to me. You assure me I've locked in 2012 pricing in November, then you tell me in July there's another hoop I have to jump through to keep the lock, then tell me less than a month later that the price lock expires if I don't act within 25 days... this is bad.

Anyone else as pissed off as I am?

I would assume the deposit already put down for 2013 counts as a first payment in terms of "paying by August 31st" to lock in pricing for 2013. As for the "locking in" of the price when upgrading at Select-A-Seat in November 2011, that's a subset of locking in the 2012 price for 2013 from paying the deposite earlier this year - either way you've locked in the rate. I found that guarantee at Select-A-Seat a bit humorous as I assumed the same guarantee would be made again and again throughout the 2012 season to get new plan buyers to come on board, including pro-rated mid-season buyers, as part of a "pay in full" incentive for renewals for 2013 even without an upgrade, and (if renewals were still under pressure) graciously extended after some stated deadline to all renewals.

Of course, I had assumed a mediocre season on the field for the 2012 Mets back in November. If the Mets had sustained their miraculous play from the first half of 2012 and were now in the Wild Card lead and in play for the division title, quite likely those mid-season carrots for new business and late renewals wouldn't be out there and we'd all be right glad to have chosen options to lock 2012 prices in for 2013 as the squeeze play was put on the bandwagon arrivistes.

In any case, those are all commitments from the Mets to lock you in at a specific rate for your seats for the 2013 season - the terms of payment of that rate were never guaranteed to be "first payment in November" or anything in particular. I agree it's a somewhat unpleasant surprise, especially after many years of the same renewal payment calendar, but I woulnd't say it's deception or a reneging on terms on their part.

In fact, I remember reading or hearing last year after the 2011 season that the move up to an early October renewal commitment deadline - itself a shift of about 2 months from prior years - was a precursor to moving it up even earlier after 2012. Not through formal communication from the ticket office, but definitely from my rep and/or from people on this thread who reported on what their rep told them. So moving from "commit in early October, first payment by December" to "commit in late August" didn't really surprise me. Though I was thinking it'd have been moved up to end of September not August (like, the day after the season ended).
