Per Tom Verducci of SI- only four pitchers originally signed by the Mets franchise have won more than 15 games in a season for them: Koosman, Seaver, Matlack and Gooden. Will another name join the list soon?
Is the select a seat event still going today, or it finished yesterday.
What I fail to understand is this:
1) The Mets are dropping payroll to the point they are a joke for a "Big Market" team.
2) Reyes is gone, wright is next, they have no closer and Santana is in the witness protection program
3)Their tickets are overpriced and plans are far from fan friendly.
4)The Wilponzi's are on the ropes as owners..
and there are people who can't wait to give them money so they can have "their seats." I love baseball but only go when I get them free or on stubhub for pennies. I park in the street and bring my own food. Wilpons get nothing from me. At least the Steinbrenners care about the fans and attempt to win every year. Nothing but circus atmosphere with the Mets.
To Quote a famous American "There's one born every minute" but in the case of a few of you, many born every minute... Go Mets ! Got my Reuban Tejada jersey all ready for the season...
What you actually fail to understand is that you can't be a real Mets fan with those feelings !
You are a debbie downer, or a fan weather fan. A real fan demands that the walls are blue. The black walls made the Mets lose ! A real fan knows the Mets always had blue walls at Shea...oh, forget about the 20 years or so of green walls, my bad.
A real fan ignores they are allowed to let the only Mets player to win a batting title just walk away. A true Mets fan knows it is far more important to have Endy back..he made a great catch once. A die hard Mets fan knows they need to sit in those new seats on the wall, even if it costs $100 or more because you are helping the team meet its payroll.
A real Mets fan knows 2011 was a great year, not only because they finished 25 games behind Philly; but Philly lost, the Braves choked, and the NYY did not win either. A true blue Mets fan knows deep down that the Miami Marlins will climb up on the hate list, if they sign Reyes. And we all need to boo Reyes every time he comes up to the plate. You need to start hating Reyes more than Chipper Jones !
A real Mets fan tells everyone on BF that Santana will definitely pitch in June 2011, but when that does not happen, they pretend it was never said. A true Mets fan tells everyone that the Mets will shock everyone in 2011 and win 92 games and win the wild card, while another true blue fan chimes in that they will draw over 3million fans in 2011. When those things don't happen, they are silent.
A real Mets fan roots that Fred Wilpon wins his suit against Picard, even as Fred loses his suit against his own Sterling employees. After all, Fred is 'our owner' and he owns "our team".
A real Mets fan knows that any fan that does not accept the BS that the Mets have put out on the field the past 3 years is not a loyal fan and should not follow the team. The loss of 800,000 ticket sales in 2 years at a new park means nothing; I would guess another 300K drop this year means nothing too. As long as those lines at Shake Shack and the ADD zone are shorter, hurray for Fred and Jeff !
And a real Mets fan hates the atmosphere at subway series games because Citi is filled with NYY fans , and the Yankees have owned the Mets.
So stop whining, spend that $19 (how dare you walk across 114th St!) and line up to miss 2 innings and eat that over priced/over rated $9.75 shack burger.![]()
a lot of good points here. so im supposed to buy tickets to more games (15games to 20games) to keep the same seats and to get one guarenteed playoff game. or build a 15 game pack with different seat locations that might cost me MORE than last year?
still dont know what im going to do come tuesday....
Brilliant mandrake, brilliant! This is exactly the (dwindling) group of fans so thrilled with throwback uniforms (and they *are* nice, no complaints here) and blue walls that they're willing to put up with the offloading of the one franchise's all-time homegrown stars at age 28 and still talk about these wonderful new season ticket plans! It's why Alderson can show up at a STH event and not have to flee...
Cleon Jones catches a deep fly ball in F. Scott Fitzgerald's Valley of the Ashes, and a second-grader smiles in front of the black and white television.
1. maybe, but please explain the relationship of payroll to winning, the 2011 Red Sox may want to know about that.
2. maybe, but are you willing to say you're wrong,... well if you're wrong??
3. that is why I will give away a mininum of 10 games to people I know that can't afford them.
4. have no idea what that means.

They've changed what they are trying to sell to us. They are miles behind Philly and Atlanta, and it's a coinflip whether they can compete with Miami and Washington anymore. They cannot continue to attempt to sell winning, and they know it.
So, they are attempting to sell the "experience" - the fun day at the ball park. Here's the lower prices you wanted, the unis, the walls, Banner Day, yay 50th anniversary, c'mon out.
IF they know what they're doing, they'll be successful in appraising young talent and will build a strong yet affordable team from the ground up, after which they can sprinkle in some big contracts. Till they pull that off (if and when), they are trying to sell us a decent night out at a more reasonable price than before, but they are not trying to sell us the joy of rooting for a contender in person.
That's what's on the table for us right now, like it or not. And, buy it or not.
Or maybe I enjoy going to a ballgame, watching the team I've rooted for since I was 6, and spending time with my wife/son/buddies (or sometimes just myself and other Mets fans)? Not only shouldn't you tell me how to spend my money (as someone else mentioned).....don't tell me how to enjoy myself either.
I'm sorry that the owner spoils everything for you, but I honestly don't give the man a second thought when I'm there.
as stated before - YOU CAN PAINT/MOVE WALLS and YOU CAN PUT LIPSTICK ON A PIG, BUT IT'S STILL A...

Everyone obviously has their opinion.....personally, I like being able to move around and see the game from almost anywhere? I like the food choices, I like the greater proximity to the field (in most cases), I like the clubs, and yes....I like the rotunda!
I sorta think that if the Mets were to win a championship, a lot of this "nitpicking" would go away? We'd have new memories of a new championship team in this ballpark. I think 90% of this criticism would fade away.....jmo.
Since you seem to think you are better equipped to be the GM of the Mets then Alderson please tell us what YOU would pay Reyes? Once you give us that fiqure please tell us what money you will have left to improve a team that finished 4th WITH Reyes having a career year? Please be realistic and accept that this team will not have a payroll over $100 million.
As to those people who are nice enough to worry about how I spend my money, I would like to offer you some mutual free advice. Instead of spending countless time writing and discussing something you no longer like or want to be a part of, why don't you find something you do like and exert the same effort into that. You may be much happier people for it!
I know I will be very happy come opening day and there is nothing anyone can say to change that.
You know you are right. There are some people around here who love to be angry and reinforce each other when they babble on it for the zillionth time.
If know if the team pissed me off that much I would find another and far more healthy way to spend my free time. Rather than wallowing in my own self created misery over something as meaningless as baseball.
The really funny thing is when they throw "Wilpon Lover" or "Wilpon Pom Pom Club" around as an epitaph, not realizing how childish it makes them sound.
Whatever

A real Mets fan, is a real sports fan. A fan who knows the game is a background for having fun with family and friends, or even alone if that's how it is that day.
He or she doesn't insult kids who enjoy playing in ballpark fun zone, or make disparaging remarks about the parents who enjoy taking them there. When you go into that diatribe ( in every single post) I wonder what kind of person hateful person would even say something like that. Go complain to the Mod if you wish - it won't change my opinion or any other caring parent's opinion. Because every time you say that you insult my kids, and a lot of other kids too.
A real Mets fan is a sports fan who loves his team even if they have an issue with some or many of the parts. Because he realizes there are up times and down times and nothing is forever. A real sports fan loves to win, but accepts losses because he knows there is always tomorrow. And there is hope in tomorrow.
I could go on, but this is probably too sentimental for some of you

you specifically used the word "championships", you should have wrote "if they'd just get to .500".
i can think of a lot of cheaper and physically healthier ways to spend an afternoon than watching an inferior product (due to the ineptitude of management) in an overpriced venue.

Just make sure it's properly cooked first.

Look at the product on the field. The owner's throwing the team and fan base under the bus so he can keep his paws on SNY revenue and reign over the kingdom of Wilponville under construction across the street. He's gutting the team to do this. This doesn't spoil the experience for you? You must not bother watching the game while you're there.
Guess what? We're all life long Mets fans. We just object to the team being looted for the benefit of the worst owner in the sport - a money-grubbing, Ponzi-scheming jerk that didn't hesitate to take egregious advantage of Mets fans when he thought he had his heel on our throat.
None of us mind your being taken advantage of - paying overpriced face value for tickets we'll get on Stub Hub for a fraction what you're paying if we feel like it. The problem is it's a betrayal to the franchise itself. Putting money in Wilpon's pocket helps anchor him at a time he's teetering on the ledge. We need to let him topple over to clear the way for an owner that's not a greedy, nihilistic blood leech.
By helping Wilpon hang on you're helping ruin the team's future.
"The Fightin' Met With Two Heads" - Mike Tyson/Ray Knight!
Back in 2009, there were probably 75-100 people on here that either had FST's or partials. I would guess that number is down to 25 or so now on BF. Watch, Strawman, when Reyes signs with Miami or someone else, there will be a campaign against him from the Mets front office.....and the same people on here that used to sing his praises will start bashing Jose. Wonder what they will do with all of those number 7 jerseys? Maybe take off the Reyes name and say they were Kranepool jerseys.
One thing about baseball fever , there are some GREAT pictures of baseball stadiums and fan bases on here. When you look at the classics (Polo Grounds, OYS, Ebbets) and then come up the years through Shea and the cookie cutters.....when did grown men start attending baseball games en masse dressed up in baseball uniforms? You don't see it at the old parks, and you really do not see it in the 1960's and 1970's...so when did it start?
Banner day is coming back? A few years ago Mongoose said if they had banner day, the crowd would look like a scene out of Frankenstein waving pitchforks and torches. Want to bet that the Wilponzi's security will be weeding out those banners ?
And Banner day used to take a long time between games of a DH. Kids used to sit in their seats and watch 2 games, plus banner day. Now, give the kid some ritalin, have him play with his ipod, and send him over to adhd land. After all, somebody posted a while back that "baseball games can be very boring" (no, honestly someone here posted that!)
There is no way the Mets draw 2mm fans to Citi Field in 2012.![]()
