ok here is an inside view from BWC
Panama is doing a really good job for the teams and the organization was much better then in Taiwan. Although you have to handle a bit with the latin stressfree style ;-)
We should have beaten Nicaragua and probably Korea. I donīt want to be "if this, or that, because" etc but you have to know we had some problems in our flight program so it took us 2,5 days to get to Panama and we arrived just a few hours before gametime.
Against Korea we where on the rise and I am pretty sure we would have won the game if it would have continiued regulary.
You also have to have a look at the schedule to see that Australia was lucky the played teams that allready qualified for the next round so their opponents took it easy. We did not have this luck and maybe we would have won a game with another schedule.
But no excuses you have to win games to advance no matter what.
Holland and Panama surprised in positive way a bit and I hope Halland goes for the Final as they are playing really strong. USA and Japan are a bit upset for me, also Chinese Taipei.
The only thing you know is you never know and that you know for sure!
And another win for us Dutchies. 2-1 against the strong Aussies (well, excluding their first 3 games) Even when loosing to the Cubans ...what ofcourse won't happen... the final is really close now. That's an increble accomplishment !

And now we are leading 4-1 against Cuba in the 5th.
Note that all games on these last two days are shortened to 7 innings, because of the many rain outs. So only 3 defensive innings for Cuba left.

We are in the gold-medal game now. There can be a three-way tie for places 1 and 2, but as far as I can figure it out, the Netherlands will always be in there !!!
Note: Cuba has to win both games tomorrow (against Canada and Panama) to qualify for the final.

To be honest. Not even close. That would be the case if we beat a star studded MLB Dominican republic side twice during the wbc.
We've beaten the cubans before. Even at the olympics (followed by probably the underachievement of the century. Loosing to South Africa). They are hard to beat, but stil beatable. When we play 10 games, we probably will win 2 ..

Martin...we've got a silver at the very least This is the best we've ever done! This WILL rank up there with the 2009 WBC!
Man, do I *HATE* the Yankees!!!!!!
Congrats to the Dutch. U guys deserve it.
And the final will be live on national television ! Looking forward to it !

With Cuba leading Canada 7-0 in the fifth it looks like you will be playing the Cubans.
All the best!

Great news. Viva honkbal.
I was very pleased, too, to read Paula's inside account of the tournament. Good stuff. Rest assured, at least one German-American was rooting for Germany. I thought their performance confirmed that they're well-deserving of that WBC invitation.
Gold medal game will be the Netherlands vs Cuba.
Bronze will be the USA and Canada.
Fifth will be Australia vs Korea.
And fighting it out for seventh will be Venzuela and Panama.
