Last Saturday night Baseball Prospectus hosted "BP at the K". They brought in Kevin Godlstein, Rany Jazerli, Jeff Euston, and Craig Brown. The flaw to the whole process is that the Royals administration failed to notify the security people at Gate C as to what was happening so we were 15 minutes late in getting started.

The four BP guys were fabulous. The emphasis was on Kevin Goldstein and Rany Jazerli due to their extensive knowledge of the Royals farm system and the Royals in general. Craig is also quite knowledgeable about the Royals but he wasn't from out of town so he didn't qualify as an expert. Jeff is a contracts guys and when you only have 45 minutes you don't worry about contracts so much. What the guys had to say was fascinating and the 70+ person crowd just ate it up.

For the final half-hour they brought on Jin Wong, the administrative GM of the Royals. This was a mistake. Jin is young, bright and articulate, but wasn't about to share any in-house secrets (he has a family to support) nor call his boss a bozo. This is only to be expected. I will give him props for his poise when some buffoon in the audience asked him if his boss's unnatural relationship with a certain pitcher was blinding him to the fact the guy has to go. There was a simple way to ask that question without directly insulting a guy's boss.

I think amongst those of us who attended we would have been happier if the event had started at 3PM instead of the 4:30Pm and the Royals staff had been left out of it.
