    Mel Ott Photo File

Here we go with a photo file on Mel Ott. I'll start it off. Feel free to contribute a photo or two on Master Melvin. First is Mel broadcasting Detroit tigers baseball with Van Patrick, 1958. Second is Mel with Mel Parnell on a local TV show in New orleans, 1953. Third is Mel with that classic stance of his.

Mel Ott In Color - 1940-41
Here's a pretty rare color shot of Mel (not "colorized"). There was no dating with the picture, but the uniform is the home version from 1940 or 1941. See here: N.Y. Giants Uniforms 1938-1949

If you are easily offended by this, do not look. This picture was taken of Mel's car after the accident with another driver.

I met the family descendents of Gavvy or Gavy Cravath in San Diego some years ago. The film clip mispronounced his last name. The accent is on the second syllable, like cra-VATH

    Mel Ott Photo File.

I picked up this photo by chance years ago. This is their way of staying in shape during the winter months. L to R: Carl Lind, Eddie morgan, Jouilliber, Monk Zeldon, Mel Ott, Lenny Mock and Zeke Bonura. All but Mock and Zelden were major leaguers. Mock played in the minors, Zeldon was a attorney in New Orleans. Photo was either 1934-1935.

1946 Chesterfield Ad - Bill Dickey & Mel Ott
This ad features managers Bill Dickey (Yankees) and Mel Ott (Giants). Besides having Mel Ott, what’s interesting about it is that Dickey only managed the Yankees for 105 games in 1946. That ended up being the full extent of his managing experience, as he never skippered another MLB club again. So an ad featuring Dickey as manager is understandably pretty rare. Nice to see the guys in real color too. (Also featured on my blog: The Real BSmile: 1946 Chesterfield Ad)

Ott getting back to third sometime in 1939. The Reds third baseman is Billy Werber.
