Mike D's 1993 Topps Traded TTM Project

With the wrap up of the send-out portion of my 1976 Topps Traded TTM Project, it's time to start the next one.

I picked up a 1993 Topps Traded set on eBay a little while back for $7.20 delivered. The card contains 132 cards.

It books for $25, so I figured that was a good deal. The key card in the set is the Todd Helton RC, which books for $10. There's a Mike Piazza card that books for $3, then cards of Barry Bonds and Greg Maddux that book for $1.50 and $0.75 cents, respectively. How that works out to $25 book value, I'm not sure, but that's Beckett for you!

I'm not super optimistic that there are a large number of the signers in the set, but there is bound to be a few. It'll be fun to find out, anyway!

    First two!

    1T. Barry Bonds
    2T. Rich Renteria

Bonds is a well known non-signer, and Renteria has no successes ever on SCN. So, no requests in this first batch.

    2 cards, 0 sent, 0 successes.

    The next two:

    3T. Aaron Sele
    4T. Carlton Loewer

Sele seems to have stopped signing a bit over a year ago. SCN has only one success for Loewer, and it was back in 2003. So, no requests sent this batch, although I'll keep an eye on Sele and see if he starts signing again.

    4 cards, 0 sent, 0 successes.

    Up next:

    5T. Erik Pappas
    6T. Greg McMichael

Pappas does not appear to be a good signer (no successes since 2007 on SCN). McMichael has a 93% success rate and successes in late Feb, so I'll give him a shot as our first request sent for this project.

    6 cards, 1 sent, 0 successes.

    The next two:

    7T. Freddie Benavides
    8T. Kirk Gibson

SCN has no successes for Benavides, ever. Gibson has a 15% success rate on SCN with no successes since 2008. So, no requests sent this round.

    8 cards, 1 sent, 0 successes.

The next two, finishing up the first 10 in the set:

    9T. Tony Fernandez
    10T. Jay Gainer

Fernandez has no successes listed on SCN since last July. Gainer has no successes listed on SCN. We're off to a slow start, with only 1 send-out in the first 10 cards of the set.

    10 cards, 1 sent, 0 successes.

    Up next:

    11T. Orestes Destrade
    12T. A.J. Hinch

Destrade does not have a good record as a TTM signer. Hinch has an 82% success rate on SCN, with successes in April. I'll give him a try c/o the Padres, where he is VP of Professional Scouting.

    12 cards, 2 sent, 0 successes.

    Up next:

    13T. Bobby Munoz
    14T. Tom Henke

SCN has zero successes ever for Munoz. Henke seems to have stopping signing last year.

    14 cards, 2 sent, 0 successes.

    The next two:

    15T. Rob Butler
    16T. Gary Wayne

Butler does not appear to be a good signer, but Wayne has a 95% success rate on SCN, so he'll get a request sent his way.

    16 cards, 3 sent, 0 successes.

    Rolling right along:

    17T. David McCarty
    18T. Walt Weiss

McCarty has a 87% success rate on SCN, so I'll give him a try. Weiss doesn't appear to be signing anymore, as his last SCN success is from 2006.

    18 cards, 4 sent, 0 successes.

    Closing out the first twenty:

    #19T Todd Helton
    #20T Mark Whiten

Helton charges a $25 donation per autograph, a bit rich for my blood. Whiten has a success rate on 93% on SCN, though, so he'll get a request sent his way.

    20 cards, 5 sent, 0 successes.

25% of the set sent through the 1st 20 cards. That's actually more than I thought. Can't wait for my first success from this project!

    The next two:

    21T. Ricky Gutierrez
    22T. Dustin Hermanson

Gutierrez does not appear to be a good signer, but Hermanson has a 92% success rate on SCN. Hermanson will get a request sent his way.

    22 cards, 6 sent, 0 successes.

    Up next:

    23T. Sherman Obando
    24T. Mike Piazza

Neither Obando nor Piazza appear to be good signers, so no requests sent this round.

    The next two:

    25T. Jeff Russell
    26T. Jason Bere

Russell has a 92% success rate on SCN and recent successes, so he'll get an request sent his way. Bere has no successes since 2008, so I won't bother with him.

    26 cards, 7 sent, 0 successes.

    The next two:

    27T. Jack Voigt
    28T. Chris Bosio

Voigt actually has a 100% success rate on SCN (20 attempts) which you hardly ever see, so I'll give him a shot. Bosio has no successes on SCN since 2008, so I'll skip him.

    28 cards, 8 sent, 0 successes.

    Up next:

    29T. Phil Hiatt
    30T. Matt Beaumont

Hiatt does not appear to be a good signer, but SCN has Beaumont at 100%, although only 3 of 3 and no requests sent since the end of 2009. I'll give him a shot anyway, though, and hope the late 2009 addy is still good.

    The next two:

    31T. Andres Galarraga
    32T. Greg Swindell

Galarraga has an 8% success rate on SCN, and Swindell has a perfect 0% (0 or 24), so no requests this batch.

    32 cards, 9 sent, 0 successes.

    The next two:

    33T. Vinny Castilla
    34T. Pat Clougherty

SCN has Castilla as 0% (0 for 40), so I'll avoid making it 0 for 41. Clougherty is listed at 100% with 3 successes, one just last month. I'll give him a shot.

    34 cards, 10 sent, 0 successes.

A lot of non-signers in this set!
My Topps Yankees project: Currently working on a TTM project to have one signed Topps Yankee card for each year since 1951. I'm trying to get a different player per year.

Years completed: All! 1951-2014 is complete.

Favorite TTM autographs: Phil Rizzuto, Tino Martinez, Yogi Berra

I kinda figured it'd be the case...but figured it'd be fun to go through the set anyway.

I'm running just about 29% sent out right now, and I'd be OK with that if that held the rest of the set.

    The next two:

    35T. Greg Briley
    36T. Dallas Green/Davey Johnson

Briley seems to have stopped signed as of last summer. He was coaching in the minors and signing, but seems to be neither coaching or signing right now.

Dallas Green appears to be a good signer, so I'll send the manager card his way. Davey Johnson is not a good signer, so no chance of getting it dual-signed.

    35 cards, 11 sent, 0 successes.

    37T. Tyler Green
    38T. Craig Paquette

Green has never been a very good signer. Paquette appears to have stopped signing abruptly last spring. No requests this lot.

I just sent this exact card to Briley c/o the Bristol White Sox today. I'll let you know how it goes.

    The next two:

    39T. Danny Sheaffer
    40T. Jim Converse

Sheaffer has a 95% success rate on SCN, so he'll get a shot. The Sheaffer request will actually be my 150th of 2011 to date. Not a bad start to the year!

Converse has fewer requests (only 7) but a solid 85% success rate, so I'll give him a shot, as well.

    40 cards, 13 sent, 0 successes.
