You'd be hard-pressed to find any glaring weaknesses on my team. None of my regulars has a career OPS+ under 120, and among my starting pitchers only Buehrle has an ERA+ below that mark. Johnson, Gibson and Schilling are all true aces, with Cone not far behind. With Nelson, Percival and Quisenberry holding down the pitching mound in the late innings, you'd better get a run early, and my lefties Leiter and Lanier are solid too.

I have backups at every position, and you'll never catch me short an outfielder. I have Gold Glove talent in Schmidt, Gordon, Davis, Kaline, Tinker and Blair. If Schmidt ever needs a breather I have a top ten third baseman backing him up in Baker, and he bats lefty to boot. My platoon of Hall of Famers Gordon and Gehringer at second is a force to be reckoned with.

Whether you're judging this team over a full season, a season's worth of head-to-head games or in a best-of-seven series, they have the depth to take on any challenger!

We have easily the best starting pitching, by far the best bullpen, the best fielding team, the most speed, solid hitting, and a very strong bench both offensively and defensively. This team is built to play small ball. 1. Get them on (very good OB%'s) 2. Get them over (tons of steals), 3. Get them in (good contact, high AVG hitters). They are a threat to score in every inning. A lead off single/walk can easily turn into a run with this team. Combine that with the strongest pitching staff and best defense. This team wins hands down!

If you don't do your job, what they're paying you for, why should they pay you? You just can't put in eight hours, that's what a lot of people don't realize about athletes. Very few people realize the pressure." Dave Kingman

I guess I will say a few things about my team. Great offense from 1-8 in my starting lineup. I'll take my top 5 hitters compared with just about anybody. There are some better starting staffs, but I have 5 should-be HOF starters in my rotation, and 3 more near HOF starters in my pen. Wettleland and Meyers join them to form a strong pen. My defense is good, with the only issue being Aaron in CF. I think he will do just fine, with Slaughter and Clemete making his job a lot easier. and I have Davis backing him up. Not a lot of low LQ guys for those who hate that sort of thing.

I do not have tons of pop on my bench, but have some very good hitters and some great defense.

Completely subjectively, I do not know if my team is the best, but I feel confident that it is probably top-half.

Outside of Sockeye, I think I have the best pitching staff. Johnson, Feller, and Koufax are all top 15 pitchers and Johnson is generally ranked number one. And Saberhagen was a great lights out pitcher when his game was on. Appier will be my fifth starter, keeping my starting pitchers on a five day rotation (thus skipping Appier when the schedule would allow it), with Pennock also able to start in the 5th starter slot if a lefty would be better suited. Wilhelm is a bullpen all on his own, capable of snuffing out any fire. And Henke and Hiller are among the top righty/lefty combo of setup men.

But my team is a lot more balanced, with speed, power, and plate discipline. Raines, Robinson, and Morgan are among the best base runners ever and Larkin is no slouch either (plus Smith provides more speed off the bench). DiMaggio, Stargell, and Cabrera are a solid middle of the order and will drive in plenty of runs. And Cochrane and Larkin are tough outs at the bottom of the order.

Defensively, I'm OK. No major liabilities, but no all time great gloves either. My bench however, does feature two of all time greats at their respective positions (Smith at SS and Hernandez at 1B, plus Boyer is generally well respected at 3B). Guerro and Boyer are going to be reliable PH from the right side and Hernandez and Oliver will be good from the left side. Elston Howard is a solid backup catcher as well.

It's not required, but you're free to post one if you think it'll help your team's case.

Hi guys- just got back from Boston an hour ago. Saw the Sox win 18-9 Monday night and lose 7-5 last night. I think they're in deep trouble even if they make the playoffs- their pitching is in shambles. I'll post my roster/lineup/writeup tomorrow.

I got a PM from our friend Brad. He's having some computer trouble, so he's asked me to post his roster for him. Since he didn't give me a team name, pitching rotation or batting order (understandable, because he was sending the message from a friend's phone), the ones I list here are all my best approximations of what he'd want. If Brad comes back soon enough, they might be changed before the playoffs begin.

    RF Charlie Keller BL .286/.410/.518 152 OPS+ 189 HR 43.4 WAR

Well rounded- good at everything. That's my team. I've got lots and lots of power in the lineup- a 600 homer guy (Mays), two 500 homer guys (FRobinson and Mathews), and another (Greenberg) who probably would have hit 500 if he didn't miss 4 and a half (!) years to war service. I've got great speed at the top of the lineup (Alomar and Mays). I've got strong all around players at other positions- Goslin, Boudreau, Munson. I've got 3 starters with career OPS+ over 150 (Greenberg, Mays, FRobinson). I'm solid to excellent defensively at every position. My pitching is excellent. I've got two 300 game winners (Alexander and Carlton) in my rotation, and multiple other strong starters (Ford, Cicotte, Willis, Reynolds). I've got enormous flexibility, in that I've got 6 guys who can start, and 8 who can relieve- on a 10 man staff! I've got 4 lefties, including 2 in the bullpen. I've got a 283 game winner (Kaat) slotted for full time bullpen duty, and also a 194 game winner (Luque), and two ace relievers who each pitched in over 1000 games (Tekulve and Orosco). My bench has a 150 OPS+ guy (Keller), and a 400 homer guy (DaEvans)- nobody else can match that. I've also got speed (Wills, EDavis, Flood) and fielding (Flood, McDougald) to burn on the bench. I have great flexibility with 3 switch hitters (Alomar, Wills, and Varitek). Also, I've got every position covered with at least 2 players, unlike some teams. And, I've got a full 10 man staff, which will be necessary for the grind of this league. One team doesn't even have 10 pitchers- they'll wear out in the stretch.

Bottom line- possibly only a couple of teams have better pitching, and possibly only a couple of teams have more hitting- and they're not the same teams. Nobody has as much of everything as I do.

Still workin' on that, Ian. I'll also try to do a writeup later today or tomorrow. I was sort of hoping more people would write up their teams. I think only Sockeye and Windy have written anything.

Well, I didn't make a writeup mandatory for this draft, but if you want to do one, you're welcome to do so. Maybe I'll do a short writeup for mine too.

    SouthSide Hitmen

The SouthSide Hitmen have a very well balanced offense with guys like Rose and Boggs who can both easily take 25-30 pitches a game with a good eye and the ability to foul pitches off. I have the two catchers with no weakness so my lineup will always have no major weakspot in the order. Rickey Henderson is the best leadoff hitter in the history of the game who also will give pitchers fits when hes on base. Tris Speaker who is a doubles machine would have no problem driving in a ton of runs with Henderson, Boggs and Rose ahead of him. I have Jeter who is a true leader who wants nothing less than to win at all costs. A strong defensive and offensively bench led by Bill Terry and Pie Traynor. My pitching staff is led by one of the best pitchers of alltime in Clemens and followed by a top 20 pitcher in Three finger Brown with McGinitty,Bender,Lolich and Ed Reulbach who was said to have been the early 20th century Sandy Koufax but needed extra rest which is why im using a 6 man rotation.

My bullpen is very strong with two outstanding leftys in Lyle and Perranoski with Catfish Hunter Haines and Rommnel also in the pen i'll have no problem with any of those guys pitching alot of innings. My team is a pretty scary team when you go head to head with any other team for any type of series.

sidenote......The SouthSide Hitmen is by far the best name too.
