I give Smoky Burgess a lot of playing time against RHP; since Campy WRECKS Lefties, I want him to be available against them as much as possible. Against LHP, I move Thomas to 1B and bring in Earl Averill. I will also usually sit Boggs and bring in Vern Stephens against southpaws.

I know we know them, but their stats aren't memorized. I'll make them optional, though.

We really should include at least some stats. It's easy to misremember some of the details about players, esp some of the lesser known ones. Besides, posting stats sometimes reveals things YOU didn't even realize (like that your team is lacking in OB, or whatever).

I dont really know much about sabermatic stats but i'll try to even it out.
The other thing is i'm pretty sure I wont be switching my starting lineup for the lefty/righty strategy. My bench would basically be for injuries or late inning defensive replacements. I cant see myself replacing a Babe Ruth type for a Willie Davis type because of a lefty or righty pitching. But I could see him replacing him on defense maybe in the 9th inning in a 2-1 game.

Well, obviously nobody would do that. But you might be willing to take out your catcher if you have a backup who's almost as good a hitter in general, but is much better against righties. A lineup VS lefties and righties could just mean "Here's my lineup, but if I face a LHSP I'll start one guy different" (or, they could just be the same - that works too).

Thats true it's just that the last draft somebody went into a whole book about all these different matchups. I'll admit I was pretty intimidated by this guys whole spread sheet. All I can say is I was pretty happy when MattC said he was making his simplier. I deff followed suit on that one.

Most likely. I'm thinking of recruiting three neutral people to vote on the round-per-round matchups using our rosters and perhaps a blurb convincing the voters as to why Team A is better than Team B

It's some peoples' strat to try to make their team/description super impressive, to sway voters to their side.

Yeah that sounds good to me, I kinda felt a little uncomfortable voting in the last draft.

Has there been a draft thats ever made a poll and just let as many members vote until say a certain deadline. It might be kinda interesting reading comments other members have about your team.

Yeah, we've done a few of them on this site. Don't remember off the top of my head which ones, however.
The Dark Knight is the best movie I've ever seen.

The lineups really aren't crucial in judging a team (at least they shouldn't be). Why? Because if these were actual teams, we would obviously adapt our lineups based on how players are performing. It's just another visual layout for a team.

    Team Name: The Draft Selections

    Lineup:

I would consider putting in Boyer to DH vs. lefties instead of Helton.

    1. Tim Raines RF
    2. Joe Dimaggio CF
    3. Babe Ruth LF
    4. Lou Gehrig 1B
    5. Mike Schmidt 3B
    6. Mike Piazza C
    7. Todd Helton DH
    8. Ryne Sandberg 2B
    9. Robin Yount SS

    Bench:

    Ken Boyer 3B/DH vs. lefties
    Brian McCann C
    Luke Appling SS
    Davey Lopes 2B
    Kenny Lofton CF
    Jesse Burkett LF

    Pitchers:

    SP Greg Maddux
    SP Bob Feller
    SP Bob Gibson
    SP Tom Glavine
    SP Dizzy Dean

    CP John Smoltz
    LRP Vida Blue
    RRP Early Wynn
    RRP Don Newcombe
    LRP Harry Brecheen

One thing is for sure, with Gibson, Wynn, Newcombe, Smoltz, and Glavine, if there is a better hitting pitching staff out there, I'd like to see it. Of course it may not matter with that goofy PR stunt DH in play.

I asked some BBFers to act as our neutral voters. As I wait for their replies, here's how the playoffs will go:

    Team A vs Team B
    Team C vs Team D

All teams write their blurb convincing the voters why they are better. So, Team A writes one about its strengths over B, Team B's weaknesses, and why Team A is better. Team C writes one about its strengths over D, Team D's weaknesses, and why Team C is better. Everyone does it.

Suppose Teams A and D are voted the victors of their matchups. Now we move into the finals, and So, Team A writes a blurb about its strengths over D, Team D's weaknesses, and why Team A is better. Team D writes one about its strengths over A, Team A's weaknesses, and why Team D is better. The voters vote for Team A, and Team A wins the championship.

Rosters are due Thursday, November 8th at 6pm EST. I randomly generated the match-ups of round one, in case you want to get a head start on your blurb.

Ty, are we supposed to include our "blurb" in our roster post, or should we make a separate posting?

On the player per state draft thread he said separate because we'll be writing separate blurbs. I think it's the last post in the draft thread.

SouthSide Hitmen (chicagowhitesox1173 vs Migook Woodknockers (Ian2813)

I think both teams are good teams here but I think the fact that he has 5 righthanded starters against my lineup which has 6 very good lefthanded hitters will really hurt him. I like his offense but I dont think his starting pitching and bullpen can really compare to mine. I also like the fact that I have solid backups at every position. I feel my team has exceptional defense with maybe Cobb and Jeter being somewhat liabilitys I can switch em out for Richie Ashburn and Lou Boudreau in late innings. To close games out vs him I have arguably the best closer in this dfraft in Eckersley.

In closing I really feel his pitching staff wouldn't match up well against my offense and thats the main reason why this team would be pretty tough for him to beat. He could use Buehrle,Pierce and Wilber Wood but those three would have a hard time beating Lefty Grove,Christy Mathewson and Sandy Koufax if he decided to use his leftys from his bullpen.

Write it in a separate post.

Mr. GiambiJuice is our first voter. The quest for two more continues, so I encourage everyone to start their blurb. Please remember to keep it less than 600 words, like Chicago's.
