Robert "Tubby" Bacon was "a man of endless enthusiasms," said his friend and former Chicago Tribune dining columnist William Rice.

Mr. Bacon, who ran his family's media monitoring business, once owned a piece of the Milwaukee Braves baseball team. He sat on the board of Independence Bank of Chicago, once one of the nation's largest black-owned banks, and was an underwriting member of Lloyd's of London.
