    1970s All Decade Team

    --Its time to honor the best of the second decade of Classic Keeper League baseball. We'll be selecting first, second and third teams with 4 SP and one RP on each team. There will be a final election to select the 40th man from amoung the runners up of the positional elections. Quite a few players, of course, split time at multiple positions. I'll assign them to the one that seems the best fit - which might be where they played most, or best or just have the best chance of making the team. I'll put up 2 position threads each day - or as close as I can manage anyway - and each will run 1 week.
    --Attached are the leaderboards for the 1970s. Top 25 for batting, pitching and fielding. I set the qualifiers fairly low to allow the guys who didn't play the full decade a chance to shine - 2,000 PA and 800 IP.

    Mark, did you figure 80 IP or 800 IP? I agree with 2000 PA, which is basically four full seasons, but 80 IP sure doesn't seem like many....

    Yes, I missed a zero. The qualifier for rate stats is 800 IP.

    That's what I figured. What the heck, Fergie is an absolute no brainer as the top pitcher of the decade, at least IMHO, and since he had the second most IP during the decade it won't much matter (G. Perry beat him by a few IP).

    Knights All Decade Team
    C: Gary Carter - likely to repeat in the 80s
    1B: George Scott - a bit of a disappoint, but held down the job reasonably well for 5 years
    2B: Joe Morgan - 2 MVPs in his 4 years as a Knights
    3B: Ron Cey - 1st team CKL 3B of the decade had best years as a Knight
    SS: Toby Harrah - ditto
    OF: Bake McBride - logged most time of any Knights OF, although he wasn't much above average
    OF: Willie Mays - only 2 years as a starter, but they were two of the best by a Knights Ofer
    OF: Bobby Bonds - also only 2 years, but they were good ones and it was pretty much of a revolving door in the Leecemark OF all decade long
    DH: Ken Singleton - another 2 year man, but won the MVP in one of them
    SP: Steve Rogers - only 2 wins short of doubling the #2 man in wins
    SP: Steve Busby
    SP: John Candelaria
    SP: Dave Roberts
    CL: John Hiller

    --Alot more mercenary a group than the 60s squad. Only Harrah, Rogers, McBride and Scott managed to play as many 5 years for us in the decade (6 for the first 3).

    --Except for the 40th man the All Decade election is complete and the 1st, 2nd and 3rd teams are listed in post #1. We probably don't need to bother with a vote for Pitcher of the Decade as Fergie Jenkins was #1 on every ballot amoung SP and no reliever is anywhere close. The Player of the Decade vote should be interesting as 5 guys were unanimous at their positions.
