Leading the division at the break by 1/2 a game does not auger well for the Dodgers. Looking at the schedule for the 2nd half, there are a lot of road games against some good teams -4 Pirates, 3 Braves, 3 Nats, 3 Reds & 6 Giants, not to mention 3 Mets, 4 Cards, 3 Marlins, 3 Rockies & a couple more D'Backs. They are 20-24 on the road against mainly weaker teams. Unless the team can start supporting their pitchers and giving them some runs to play with, especially some late innings insurance, they will struggle in the second half of the season. I am hoping Kemp can help lift them and also they can find another hitter to support him as there are no hitters at all in the current line-up other than Kemp (Ethier went off the boil after he signed his contract).

Any thoughts of a post season by this team have been seriously eroded by total inability to score runs. Even when they score 6 against the worst hitters in MLB they allow 7 runs to lose the game. Yes it is easy to get a few runners on base but they have no idea how to get them to home plate. Unless they spend some money to buy someone who can hit they are doomed to yet another sad season.

And so the slide continues. Lost series against bottom placed San Diego. Lost series against bottom placed Philadelphia. Inability to score runes. Too many errors.. They can no longer blame the McCourts for ineptness. It is not a mid season slump, that happened before the AS break. It is in reality a poor performing team which was made look good by a very favorable schedule in the first half of the season. A team which cannot score more than 6 runs in an inning (12 times has that total been exceeded) is in a whole lot of trouble.
    What is the answer?

Hope he can produce. The team needs production from the bats. And hopefully Choate can shore up the relief staff, especially as our starters tend to struggle after the 5th inning, which is not helped by lack of run support.

So why is it that this team can beat teams who are over .500 but get whipped by teams with losing records. When are the bats going to start firing? What is wrong? How can it be fixed?

Maybe the team is akin to the summer travel team I coach: We play really well against the teams that "should" beat us, upsetting some of them . . . and then we lay an egg against teams that we should dominate in terms of both pitching and hitting. I don't think that theory holds water at the MLB level, though.

No worries, the Dodgers are tied for first and are moments away from beating up on the Dirtbacks.

In happier (or stranger) news, I just read that the club is now looking at trading for Dempster AND Soriano. Dempster maybe, but please, NO Soriano. Bad apple, IMO.

Happy to see Hanley run out a potential DP ground ball last night. Maybe a change of scenery has also changed his approach. If anyone can get him to play to the best of his ability every pitch of every game, I believe whole-heartedly it is Don Mattingly. Here's hoping the attitudes stay positive and the bats stay hot.

And that we make a last minute deal to DUMP Loney!!

Crazy idea: has anyone considered moving Hanley to second base?

The signing of Shane Victorino may shore up the batting. Something needs to happen. The trend continued last night, after sweeping the Gnats they can't handle the D'Backs. Thankfully the Mets were able to beat the Gnats. I presume that the sale of Lindblom was offset by the purchase of Choate. But they seem to be trading a number of pitching prospects which is not good.

Not a viable option, IMO, because ANYTHING that keeps Tubby at 3B is BAD!!

The Dodgers have tried to make moves and all, but it's still the pitching and hitting that's not coming through for the team.

    Maybe next year.

    Riveting insight.

Hey folks, I used to post here a lot when I joined the site. Then baseball-fever changed their layout and I kinda got annoyed by it. Been posting a lot on another forum but kind of missed this one so I'll be trying to post here more as long as the traffic is good.

I recently went up to Citi Field and saw the Dodgers sweep the Mets. Citi Field is beautiful stadium. Later on this month I'll be going out to Chattanooga to see the AA Lookouts play and then traveling to Atlanta for 2 games against the Braves.

Mark Ellis has been huge for us at 2nd base. Why would we move him?

Dodgers acquire Joe Blanton from the Phillies for a player to be named later or cash considerations.

Dodgers also claim Cliff Lee off waivers, developing.

No Cliff Lee. Still not much offense, and getting beaten 2 games by the Rockies at home is really sad!! That is not a championship team. They need to get all the bats going, but don't seem to know how on a consistent basis.

2-game winning streak! (At least it's a streak). Tied for first. 1 game above .500 on the road. I'll take it for August 11. Now . . . it is time to build some momentum!

Every time they get momentum they meet a team under .500 and lose. A sweep of the Pirates, Braves and then the Gnats would be good. And hopefully the Gnats will get swept by the Nats, because the Pads shouldn't give them any trouble.

Maybe I should stay out of the country, because they have been doing well since we left. 7-3 on the road against 3 + .500 and the Marlins is a great effort. Now they need to sweep the Gnats.

If the Dodgers could sweep the Giants easily in SF while they had Melky, imagine how nice it's gonna be at home without Melky!

The runs have dried up again - surely Bumgarner and Lincecum are not that good this year?? Especially in the Dodgers' own dung heap!!

    you were saying?

The Giants have held the Dodgers to 0 or 1 run in 6 of 11 games this year

Meanwhile the Dodgers have held the Giants to 0 or 1 run in 3 of 11 games this year

Sandoval and H Sanchez missed the last series with LA and the Giants did not yet have Pence or Scutaro

    1. The more I learn, the more convinced I am that many players are over-rated due to inflated stats from offensive home parks (and eras)

I guess you have bragging rights at the moment Roy - but the season is not over yet. It does not matter who is in or out of the team, whoever is playing is responsible to get the W. The Dodgers missed Kemp, Ethier & Mark Ellis for a few weeks but that was no excuse. Clubs need depth and be able to use it when required. The Dodgers offense has been poor all season, not just against the Gnats so your comments while somewhat valid do not hold a lot of merit with the Dodgers. It is very painful though that the Bums can get swept at home by your mob!!
