Before the Rookie draft begins, I urge you all to look at the TIDP for at least 1980 to be sure that your records agree with the data posted. Please let me know of any discrepancies so that we can get a corrected report for Mark to use as he posts the draft order. Thanks.

          FA bidding

          Mark,

Looking at the off season schedule, I don't believe we have a CFA bid range of .75M. Aren't they .25M, .50M and 1.0M increments?

Thanks to everyone who welcomed me aboard. I'm looking forward to this league. It looks challenging but that's what will make it fun. I do have a few questions regarding roster moves and the rules in general:

              1. I assume every player whose contract period ended in 79 is eligible for free agency. Players originally drafted by my team qualify for the HTD in the upcoming FA process. Is that right?
              2. Can a player's new contract offer be lower than the last contract that is expiring?
              3. In the FA process, if a FA (non-HTD) is offered a contract of $3M for 3 years by one team and $2.5M for 4 years by a second team, which offer is higher? What if they are both for $3M for 3 years and 4 years?
              4. Can my team be moved and, if so, is there a limit on my stadium choice?
              5. Do the Spikes have a franchise player from the 70's? If not, is it too late to name one now? I see that Rickey Henderson was drafted in '79. The end of his 4th season would be 1982 and I think this is when he would be eligible to be named a franchise player. Would he qualify as a franchise player for the 70's (when he was drafted) or the 80's (when he is eligible)?
              6. I think I have the '79 roster of the Spikes figured out. I can post what I have now if anyone wants to review it to see if it looks right.

Thanks for having me. I looking forward to getting this franchise turned around.

                  Dan,

I don't think Comerica Park existed in 1980. So I don't think you can use it. I may be wrong.

I have a complete list (Hope it's accurate) of Spikes roster. I'll check it against what you posted. I had assumed you had been given a roster. I could have sent you my file to save you a bunch of work.

                    Dan,

Going through your listing, I noticed one misunderstanding. HTD are only available to rookies who you initially signed asa rookie. Therefore, any FA is not eligible. Buddy Bell, for example, was not signed by the Spikes as a rookie in 1978. He was a FA from 1978-1982. Bell was a rookie in 1972. Therefore Buddy Bell is not eligible for a HTD Discount. He will be on your roster at the current salary until the end of the 1982 season. Cabell and several others are incorrectly listed as well. In summary, only rookies the Spikes signed in 1974 are eligible for an HTD discount for the 1980 season.

                      Dan,

Except for your HTD misunderstandings mentioned above, your roster posting is the same as mine. Excellent job getting set up Jack

That's not exactly correct, Jack. IF the Spikes had originally drafted Bell in 1972, and then resigned him via a HTD contract, he would be eligible for another HTD contract. That's how the Legends have resigned Fergie Jenkins twice at a discount. Since Bell was originally signed by the Urracas (now the Blues) he is not eligible for the HTD. That rule however actually WILL affect Bert Blyleven after 1980. He was originally signed by the Brawlers as a rookie in 1970, was resigned via HTD from 76 to 80, and will be HTD eligible again after this season because he was in fact an original Spikes/Brawlers/Boys rookie. Hope that is as clear as mud....

                            Jack
                            Jack,

Cabell and Moffitt were both rookies drafted by the Spikes in 1972. Hood and Tanana were both rookies drafted by the Spikes in 1973. I believe all of these players were signed as free agents under the HTD rule by the Spikes. Wouldn't they qualify still for the HTD discount when their HTD FA contract expires?

Blyleven was signed in 1970 as a rookie by the Brawlers (who no longer exist). If the Brawlers became the Spikes and Blyleven was signed as a HTD FA, would he still qualify as a HTD FA again when his contract expires?

Bell was signed as a FA from Urracas (whoever they are now) and I agree he would not qualify for the HTD when his contract expires.
