It was mostly tongue in cheek, Tony, and mostly directed at NJYankeeFan, as we go back the past year debating Jeter in a light hearted way, never throwing insults or calling names. No disrespect at all to anyone, just call it me firing the first shot in what's gonna be a fun year watching watching him get past St. Cal in hits.If they didn't think he could be the catcher long term...they could have just waited for Gary Sanchez or Austin Romine. They're both either a year or two away.
Was that directed at me Mr. Knight? LOL
Two things:
1. If this was not direct at me...then disregard and read no further.
2. If this was directed at me then let us discuss. One: I only bash Jeter when he warrants it. I am sorry that I don't drink the Jeter KoolAid and cherish the ground that he walks on. To me he's Barry Larkin in a big market and no health issues. Do I feel Jeter gets more credit than he deserves? Hell yes! Do I think Jeter is a mediocre shortstop? Hell yes! Do I think the NY Media and Yankee fans from 95+ kiss his ring? Of course! Do I think that Jeter has one of the biggest ego's on this team? Hell. Yes! I won't apologize for that. We'll just have to agree to disagree.
Now onto Andy. Do I like Andy? Yes, I do. But here is my issue. The Yankees need to fill out 3 Starting Rotation spots from the likes of: Phil Hughes, Freddy Garcia, Michael Pineda, and Ivan Nova. And now they just added Andy to the mix. It's as if the Front Office has no faith in what they already have on hand. Or maybe that 2.5 Million was itching in Hank Steinbrenner's pocket. This stinks to high hell of a Steinbrenner move.
Hughes has been dealing this Spring and Pineda is bouncing back, velocity was hitting 94 last outing. That leaves Nova, who was a godsend last season, and Garcia who's been injured so far. I think the spots should goto Hughes, Pineda and Nova. Send Garcia to AAA or home. Now, this is why I don't like the move. The Yanks already have the insurance policy in Garcia and he pitched better than expected for the Yankees last season. Andy was at home last season eating Cheetos and drinking Dr. Pepper. The Yankees then have the Killer B's in Banuelos and Betances in the wings and don't forget David Phelps, DJ Mitchell or Adam Warren could see action as well. So why? Why bring back Andy? Why not move forward instead? Why not let these kids battle it out for a chance to be one of the first in line to get a call up if a Starter gets injured? I could see if this was June and the back of the rotation was stinking up the joint, but it's March!
Bringing Andy into the mix stinks of the late 80's and early 90's desperation when the Yankees would have a good prospect in the wings such as a Doug Drabek, Jose Rijo, Al Leiter, Jay Buhner, Fred McGriff, Eric Plunk, or Jay Howell only to trade him for a retread. Why not let one of the prospects get a fair shot over Andy? The Yankees don't lose anything. It's for a Fifth spot in the Rotation, all this pitcher has to do is keep his head above water by pitching .500 ball or close to that. A prospect could do that and he could also be learning on the job and even give you a Hughes or Nova double digit in wins out of the blue at next to nothing in cost and from an unexpected spot. So that's my issue. I want to move forward....not backwards.
What's next? Posada next spring training gets resigned too?!![]()
