Other teams have been denying Davis pitches to hit because he's too good. He saw only one fastball and nothing but breaking balls in the Braves series. Opposing teams recognize his power and have pitched accordingly.

Ruben continues to prove that he belongs. 4 of his 6 hits have been for doubles and he's taken an average of 4.23 P/PA......all with stellar defense. I'm loving the transition to the Ruben era at SS. Kid can play.

Well then he is not "too good" is he? Its up to Ike to adjust. So far he hasnt, he will, but to say he is too good is a bit inaccurate.

This writer is just way to giddy after 4 games. Using the word "continues" when the season is less than a week old is not very bright. Let it pitch well to June/July then say continues. Hopefully it does.

We're going to have to temper our expectations at this point and wait to see if he adjusts. He's never seen curveballs and sliders at this rate so we need to give him time.

Too good? Let's see him adjust to MLB pitching before we say he is too good. Hitters like George Brett and Tony Gwynn and Kirby Puckett learned to adjust over time, even when they did not have much help in the line up. Davis is still learning, give him time. But he is not 'too good' at this point in his career. If he was, he'd hit anything they threw at him.

Now, Jason Bay on the other hand, actually looks 100% lost at the plate !!!

    When Davis connects, it's awesome.

I love the way the media blows everything out of proportion. Four wins and a dynasty is beginning. Four losses and the end is near.

I also hope the early succss continues

Welp, we lose Wright, and the whole team can't hit worth a damn. So much for depth.

    I miss Reyes already.

Ahh, finally, reality sets in. How quickly and easily the 4-0 team goes 4-2.

I still say about 90 losses, give or take a few. Defense is half the game, and the Mets don't have quality at 2B, and even worse quality in RF. In fact, I think Duda looks like the court jester chasing balls around out there.
    Put it in the books.

I'm going to blame Roger Craig for this one.

Yup, it's the central fact of this 2012 season, alas.
Cleon Jones catches a deep fly ball in F. Scott Fitzgerald's Valley of the Ashes, and a second-grader smiles in front of the black and white television.

As of April 11th, Jason Bay is batting .158/.261/.211/.471 according to ESPN. He will earn $18,125,000 this season.

Perhaps playing in New York is too hectic and nerve wracking for Bay. I think the same goes for Pelfrey as well. The Mets might want to try dumping their contracts to a smaller market team (wishful think in Bay's case, I realize).

I've been saying this for a long time regarding certain players. Not everyone can psychologically handle the New York (or any particluar big market) spotlight. Some shine when they come to NY (David Cone comes to mind), but some become literally crippled by it. I think Bay and Pelfrey are good examples of the latter.

Quite right. And the shortstop we failed to even offer a contract to was a prime time New York performer.

I donno on Bay. Boston, and replacing Manny before he made a mockery of himself, ain't exactly flyover land. Sometimes I think when a guy comes to NY "we" and the media are too quick to pat ourselves on the back and say they can't handle it here or as often as not (witness camera man getting inches from Randy Johnson's face as he walks into a doctor's office) creating self fulfilling prophecies or injecting into the story rather than sitting on the side and reporting/commenting.

Lucas Duda is not a major league player. Not even close. He has power, but whoever gave him his glove should be arrested for placing a weapon in someones hands. I think the Mets have quite a few players that arent major leaguers but they get their names tossed around as a young core to build around. Its a smoke screen - Oz is not behind the curtain.

so now we need the proverbial 5 tool players. apparently Swoboda was a butcher early on he turned out alright. I'll duck, but Kent was no wizard at 2B, I don't recall but was that and his personality why he got kicked to the curb so quick.

Poor fielder = not a major league player. I think I've heard it all.
