Not a bad performance by Hughes. He still makes me nervous, though. He's also given up a HR in his last 8 starts, the most since Jack McDowell in 1995.
Averaging one home run every 10.61 at-bats throughout an entire career - an amazing stat that gets little respect, yet will NEVER be broken!

That is the risk we have with him. He is a fly ball pitcher and it is Yankee Stadium. He is bound to give up homers.

Why are you such a negative person? Why even follow the team if you give up before the first pitch is thrown?

Tough fought win right there. ARod barely made the throw in time and Tex with a nice stretch to get it.

Its a reverse jinx, and the Yankees are 2-0 when I do it.

Yessir, now I will do it for every game.

I'll take it - we needed this W. I feel Hughes is not being a nibbler as much anymore but his Ks are up - the HRs are the result. I feel he is the team hero. The double in the ninth was a nailbiter. Can't believe Dave Eiland is their pitching coach?

I guess we should all be happy that the Yanks got those two hits with RISP. Even though one was a bunt that didn't score anyone and the other was a bases loaded bloop that only scored 1 run, it is progress. The fact that they really struggled against a pitcher that they had dominated in the past shows where they're at right now, but I'm hoping that minor victory at the plate (along with a good performance by Hughes) is what they needed to get back on track.

If Yankees hit with RISP even 30% of the time they wouldnt need great pitching to win.

hitting 30% (.300) would be overperforming (lucky) for a team that hits .264 overall
I think walks are overrated unless you can run. If you get a walk and put the pitcher in a stretch, that helps, but the guy who walks and can’t run, most of the time he’s clogging up the bases for somebody who can run. – Dusty Baker.

I don't wamt to know what it is because it's that low - maybe the bottom. Like I posted after your post sometihing like 4 for 67 (announcer) and we were 0-13 two night ago. Everybody realizes this is the problem. Agree with Dom, Jeter's single was a start but we only got one run. Maybe send some down to get the confidence back. When we won we had a ton of come from behind games. I do like Kevin and I know he is having volunteer extra practices.

Before last night, they were 6-76 with runners in scoring position over the last several weeks. I'm happy they got the win last night, but let's be honest, Luke Hochevar isn't exactly Justin Verlander. He was sporting a 7.05 ERA going into the game and they only scratched 3 runs, 2 coming from the bases loaded situation. They had the bases loaded again with only 1 out and again they couldn't do much with A-Rod and Ibanez at the plate. Like I said, I'm glad they won, but this is a game that they should be scoring 5+ runs. Let's hope it was a wake up.

Also, Teixeira is batting in the 3 hole tonight, with Cano in the 5 hole. Let's hope that helps.

Jeez Girardi.... He is starting to annoy me now. He is hinting to sticking Robertson back into the 8th inning and keeping Soriano as the closer. Is this pressure from the top or is Girardi just keeping Robertson from the heat if the team struggles continues?

Another loss. No point tuning in. Just get it over with.

Smart. Keep Robinson for critical spots. Keep his cost down at the same time. Inflate Soriano's value and rid yourself of an albatross contract.

Managers should manage to win, not to manage trade expectations or inflate/deflate perceived values. And if you got rid of Soriano at whatever price, do you really think Robertson would come close to being Mariano's successor? I don't always agree with this manager's decisions, but he's doing well with the relievers. This team's problems are elsewhere.

Managers should manage to win but not just 1 game. Long term.

Can Robertson succeed Mo? A resounding yes. Mo blew a few his first year too.

Soriano is perfectly capable of getting out a random three hitter without allowing three runs.

Then maybe he will be even more overvalued than the Yanks overvalued him.

Maybe you should save that for must-win games, or games when we face a team that can hit or a pitcher on a hot streak. No reason to use up the mojo when you don't have to.

    4-0!

    It works.

And yea will eventually stop and save it for postseason, if it happens.

Nova dropped his ERA to 5.46. What a great pitcher...

We got used to Mo. In Mo we Trust. Has Soriano blown any saves yet? 4-0 with a 2.2 ERA Soriano is doing the job so let's keep him in there. Roberson will his opporunities and he had trouble the last couple times. It takes mental toughness to be a closer. Mo is coming back next year so we have time.

I agree with the result not the thought process. Mo had trouble with his first few saves too. Means nothing. Unless they should have determined that Mo did not have the right mentality back in 1997.

My reverse jinx was not needed today, great game.

Good to see Tex driving in runs, more importantly.
