    Davey Johnson

    Years with team: 1965-1972
    Main position(s): 2B
    Plate Appearances: 3929
    Statistics with team: 904 hits, .259/.330/.378, 104 OPS+, 17.6 WAR
Honors with team: 3 gold gloves, 3 all star appearances

Johnson has a case, along with Bobby Grich, Robby Alomar and Brian Roberts, to be called best second baseman in franchise history. He started on the team for their first four World Series appearances (1966, 1969, 1970, 1971)... he put up huge numbers in the 1970 postseason, batting .364 (1.371 OPS) in three against the Twins and .313 (.914 OPS) in five games against the Big Red Machine. His best personal season came one year after he was traded to Atlanta. Later in life, he led the Orioles as manager to their last two postseason appearances (1996-1997) including the '97 season where they led the AL East wire-to-wire and lost the ALCS to the Indians in a nerve-wracking 1-0 game in extra innings.

    Doug DeCinces

    Years with team: 1972-1981
    Main position(s): 3B
    Plate Appearances: 3257
    Statistics with team: 738 hits, .253/.323/.428, 112 OPS+, 21.3 WAR
    Honors with team:

Doug DeCinces had the (mis)fortune to be "the guy that followed Brooks Robinson". That said, he still put up admirable numbers for the team through the 1970s. His big season came in 1978 where he hit 28 home runs and put up a 149 OPS+. After the 1981 season he was traded to the California Angels for Dan Ford, and like Johnson put up his career season finishing 3rd in '82 MVP voting.

    Ned Garver

    Years with team: 1948-1952
    Main position(s): SP
    Batters Faced: 4639
    Statistics with team: 60-68, 3.62 ERA, 125 ERA+, 1.423 WHIP, 24.6 WAR
Honors with team: 1 all star appearance, MVP runner-up in 1951

Another "Hall of Very Good" type player who started his big-league career with the franchise. Garver would likely have won the AL Cy Young Award in 1951, a season where he won 20 games and notably batted .305 with a 109 OPS+ as a pitcher. Garver was part of an eight player trade that sent him to the Detroit Tigers near the end of the 1952 season.

    Gus Triandos

    Years with team: 1955-1962
    Main position(s): C
    Plate Appearances: 3610
    Statistics with team: 794 hits, .249/.326/.434, 107 OPS+, 12.3 WAR
Honors with team: 3 all star appearances

Triandos was part of the historic 17-player trade with the Yankees following Baltimore's initial 1954 season. Afterwards, he became one of the few stars of the pre-dynastic Orioles, garnering MVP votes in 1955, 1956, 1958 and 1959. Triandos was not a particularly good defensive catcher but made up for it with his power bat, hitting 142 home runs for the Orioles including 30 in 1958. He was traded alongside Whitey Herzog to the Detroit Tigers after the '62 season for Dick Brown.

    Chris Hoiles

    Years with team: 1989-1998
    Main position(s): C
    Plate Appearances: 3339
    Statistics with team: 739 hits, .262/.366/.467, 119 OPS+, 23.4 WAR
    Honors with team:

Chris Hoiles spent his entire career with the Orioles and from a statistical standpoint is the franchise's best catcher. He began his big-league tenure with the "Why Not?" team under manager Frank Robinson and blossomed in the early 90s, enjoying Davey Johnson's postseason teams near the end of his career. Hoiles was best known for being a power-hitter like Triandos (151 HRs with the team) but could also take a walk, averaging 79 per 162-games. He was part of the 1996 team that produced a then major league record 7 players with 20+ home runs in the same year.

    Mike Flanagan

    Years with team: 1975-1987, 1991-1992
    Main position(s): SP, RP
    Batters Faced: 10149
    Statistics with team: 141-126, 101 ERA+, 21.9 WAR
Honors with team: 1 all star appearance, AL Cy Young Award in 1979

Flanagan has one of the longest tenures as a pitcher for the Orioles (and Browns) and converted league average numbers into a winning record. He had one sterling season in 1979, finishing 23-9 with a 3.08 ERA (131 ERA+), a league leading 5 complete-game shutouts, a Cy Young award and a trip to the 1979 World Series where he went 1-1 in three games with a 3.00 ERA (5 ER in 15 innings). Flanagan was always known as a kind man who took his time with strangers and badly wanted his team to succeed. He came back to the team in a relief role at the end of his career after the team traded him to Toronto. After that, he successfully integrated himself into the media and then, unsuccessfully, the front office. Flanagan fatally shot himself in August of last year... a story that stunned the Baltimore sports community. We miss you Flanny.

This franchise has already reached seven votes. We can definitely elect candidates here if those candidates reach or exceed 75%.

There are a number of candidates sitting at 6/9 votes including Dave McNally, George Bamberger and Harry Dalton. I would ask that those who voted against them reconsider their case before the election closes.

I'm already with you on the contributors, and if McNally is to benefit from a change in my vote, it will come Friday evening (if my vote isn't the one to put him over the top when I make the change, it's certain I won't make the change. If that situation still exists, I may bend for a pitcher so well represented among the team pitching leaders for a franchise around since 1901).
