I remember how a little over a month ago, GiambiJuice said Jeter's .315 BA looked good, but was empty. Well, I don't think his .324 average is empty. He has now gotten his OPS+ up to 119. Not bad for any SS, let alone a 38 year old one.

"There has always been a saying in baseball that you can't make a hitter, but I think you can improve a hitter. More than you can improve a fielder. More mistakes are made hitting than in any other part of the game."
- Ted Williams
"I know I'm the world's worst fielder, but who gets paid for fielding? There isn't a great fielder in baseball getting the kind of dough I get paid for hitting."
- Dick Stuart
Jeter now has 186 hits for the season, the most ever for a shortstop in his age-38 or older season. Honus Wagner had 181 hits in 1912. Pretty impressive if you ask me.

Willie Mays tied at 11th place with hit number 3,283! Baring an offensive miracle, he'll have to wait until next year to tie this man:

Note: There is some discrepancy. MLB lists Cap Anson at 3,011. Baseball Reference lists him at 3,435. Hmm...

WHO. CARES.
Yankees are losers. I dont give a garbage about some loser's record.
Well, I care. I'm a sox fan, too, and if the Yankees were actually losers, the epic Eastern Division struggles of the 21st Century wouldn't have been as dramatic. Jeter is a great player (though a dreadful shortstop), and it does not reflect well on your team to run him down. It just makes you look, pardon me, foolish. I understand your feelings, but a real fan tips the hat to greatness wherever it's found. If it's the enemy, it just makes your team's struggle more heroic, its victories more resounding, and its defeats more noble. Please don't make the rest of us look bad.
Well, he finished 2012 by batting .316 and leading the Majors in hits with 216, not bad for a 38 year old SS. He now has 3,304 hits. Can he do 196 hits next year and finish the season with 3,500?

I noticed that Jeter also led the Majors in plate appearances and at bats, which is an impressive feat on its own. I wonder whether a 38 year old has ever lead the Majors in those categories before?
(Jeter also finished third in the Majors in Outs Made, for what it's worth).

Never happened before.
This has to be the greatest season by a 38 year old SS in MLB history. At least, offensively.
He got his 200th Post-Season hit tonight. That's a huge accomplishment.

^No it isnt. its a worthless accomplishment no matter how you look at it. Only thing notable in postseason is winning, AND SCORING RUNS! Meaningless hits in a losing game is worthless.
Were you surprised that they didn't stop the game and shower him with gifts? What actually happened was TBS flashed the stat on the screen for 5 seconds, and that was it. That's exactly what that "huge accomplishment" deserved.
By the way, Jeter is the all-time post-season leader in outs made, strikeouts, and worst range. No one will ever break those records.
He're an up to date picture of Jeter. He's walking, thankfully.

Not sure if it's been mentioned (and if so, I apologize for duplicating), but Derek's only 16 hits away from being the All-time RH leader in hits for the American League as he'll pass Paul Molitor. He's still a couple of years away, but Aaron holds the MLB record.

"Chuckie doesn't take on 2-0. Chuckie's hackin'." - Chuck Carr two days prior to being released by the Milwaukee Brewers
As soon as he reached 3,000 someone asked me what I thought about him reaching 4,000.I was stunned at the question. I couldn't answer right away because it was just too far-fetched and it had never occured to me that he could reach 4,000. It would take at least 5 more years, maintaning his current skill level and staying injury free. Not a chance.
Good afternoon, ladies and gentlemen, and welcome to Yankee Stadium. Here are the lineups for todays game...
The walking boot has come off. Now, onward to 3,500 in 2013!
